One thing it demolishes is the lazy leftist trope that the root cause is poverty. The penniless yak herders arent the problem.It is indeed long past time for the left to stop caterwaling about "poverty" and start thinking about the real world. Steyn is a marvelous writer.

The Sept. 11th capture of Hekmatyar that Steyn refers to has not been confirmed. It seems to have been an error by the German press agency, DPA.
