In an editorial meeting this morning with the Sacramento Bee, Gov. Schwarzenegger explained the way he has changed his approach to working with the Legislature from last year to this year:
Im much more inclusive. Last year was one of those situations where it was the approach that was wrong. To go out in the state of the state (speech) and say, Hey, you do this in the next two months and if you dont, I go to the people, I think that was too harsh. It makes everybody feel defensive: If thats his approach Im not going to help him. It was kind of like I expect you to do this.
"Its communication.
"You know it is the same thing, I can go to my wife and I can go and say, Look, I have some friends coming over from Austria and I expect you to make the best wiener schnitzels theyve ever eaten. This is absolutely a must. She most likely will burn that and they will all choke to death. Thats what she would do.
"But if I say to Maria, I have some friends coming over from Austria, and the Austrians claim that Americans dont know how to make wiener schnitzel. Lets show them. I know you make the best wiener schnitzels in town. Better than my mother ever made. It is unbelievable. You make those wiener schnitzels, and its going to be a winner. Now my wife is going to kick in and go and do everything she can because its a different approach.
"Its communication. Its the way you talk to people.

How this state ever survived without such a deep thinker like him running it is beyond me.
Picture the Terminator saying that.
"Make the schnitzels if you want to live."
beats
Don't eat Maria's schnitzel if you want to live.
Is it just me or does the insanity in California seem to be increasing exponentially?

The beer, Not the girl. ;-)
mmmmm wiener schnitzel
You take YOUR remedy, I'll take mine... ;->
Er, what's the difference between the two approaches? They are both patronizing and transparant. But I wouldn't be surprised if flattery works on the California state legislature. They don't have to know its sarcasm.
