Unfortunately, however much the ADL and other "Jewish establishment" groups feud with individual Democrats, they will always remain loyal to the Democratic party because of domestic liberalism. These old-timers insist that support of Israel must be a liberal position, perfectly in tune with abortion on demand, "gay rights," and the absolute secularization of society. They are so convinced that Jewishness reduces to liberalism and secularism that they are beyond hope. Instead Republicans should concentrate on the Orthodox community and its legitimate leaders. As a matter of fact, perhaps the time has come for the true Jewish Leadership (the Orthodox rabbis, poseqim, and battei-din) to repudiate the secular philanthropists who have hijacked "Jewish leadership" for over a hundred years and reassert themselves as the genuine rulers of the Nation. Jews are, after all, a Theocratic Nation in Exile, not just another ethnic group or religious denomination.

The Democratic Party has been a congenial political home for many American Jews since the era of FDR. The party welcomed them into its ranks (along with many blacks and urban dwellers) and its programs comported well with many values Jews cherish.

Ironically, what many like to forget (or never knew) is that the white South was an integral part of the New Deal colation right along with everyone else. Furthermore, its loyalty to the Democratic party was much older than that of many other coalition members and continued to endure after FDR. Ultra-liberal Adlai Stevenson carried only states in the Deep South in his two presidential runs (1952 and 1956). I notice no liberals were saying "f---- the South" back then. Perhaps if white Southerners were to return to "voting right" then we'd be as exempt from criticism as are Black Fundamentalists.

The modern dem/liberal is yet another ironic example of projection. They frequently call conservatives and Republicans "nazis", yet they themselves are about as close to being nazis as anyone around today, with the exception of the Islamo-Nazis. But then again, many of the lib/dems ARE Islamo-Nazis themselves.

That's a very valid reference to the F. D. Roosevelt Administration's numerous failures and delinquencies in dealing with the Nazi Holocaust abroad. The story of the ship St. Louis was portrayed in the movie Voyage of the Damned, but many other incidents demonstrating similar callousness, on the part of the Administration toward European Jews in that era, are less well known.

An excellent book on the subject is Arthur D. Morse's While Six Million Died: A Chronicle of American Apathy, published in hardcover by Random House and in paperback by Ace Publishing c. 1967.

The Conquerors: Roosevelt, Truman and the Destruction of Hitler's Germany, 1941-1945 by Michael R. Beschloss reveals confidential conversations which show the extent of FDR's indifference toward the Holocaust, hostility toward Germany, and his anti-Semitism and anti-Catholic attitudes. I've not read the book (just read around in it), so I'm not clear about how much Truman shared those views, but do remember the flap a few years ago about some material that emerged from Truman's presidential or personal papers.
