Chavez Repeats 'Devil' Comment at Harlem Event

Thursday, September 21, 2006

NEW YORK — Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, appearing Thursday at a Harlem Church for an oil-for-poor event, repeated his 'devil' reference hurled a day earlier at President Bush during a speech at the United Nations General Assembly.

Chavez, dressed in his signature red shirt, was introduced at the podium by activist actor Danny Glover.

At one point Chavez told the crowd, "sometimes the devil takes human form," a comment that drew some boos — and applause — from the crowd who interpreted the reference to mean President Bush.

Chavez was visiting the church as part of ceremonies to announce the sale of discounted home heating oil to qualified low-income families.

The appearance came after reports circulated early Thursday morning that the Venezuelan president had left the country overnight after delivering an insult-riddled speech at the U.N. General Assembly on Wednesday in which he called President Bush the 'devil.'

The crowd chanted "Chavez, Chavez, the people are with you" in Spanish as he walked into the Mount Olivet Baptist Church on Lenox Ave. in Harlem.

Wasn't it Pat Robertson who called for the "elimination" of Hugo Chavez not that long ago? And wasn't he roundly criticized and vilified for this remark?

All I can say is... it's not too late.

I am so happy that this story links Kennedy and Chavez and Citizen's Oil and Citgo!

Let's keep that happy association alive! Especially in the next six or seven weeks.

The stickier that association the better will be the conservative turnout.

" Heads exploding at the DNC that hugo is acting exactly like a modern democrat."

I was doing other things and just heard parts of this speech. Without any other thoughts I just thought it was Howierd Dean giving a speech. I swear I did. I did think the voice was funny but I was in the other room. Dean could easily have written this for Chavez.

Chavez is being introduced in Harlem by DANNY GLOVER? Geez, I knew Glover was a Leftist, but this is going pretty far. A real love fest, Hollywood evidently has with Chavez. But where is Redford, Sarandon, et al? And where is Teddy Kennedy? Won't he join in with these others?

Not a good thing for Lamont Democrats, who agree with this nutburger thug, to be so exposed now that the fall campaign season has begun.

They'll say Chavez and Ahmadinejad were paid off by Karl Rove.

Clover is just another one of the hate-America crowd who believes we are a racist nation, and all that usual filth. It was Clover who said George W Bush, as governor, executed many black and hispanic men. Apparently this moron thinks murderers should roam the streets. He also has no grip on reality because it is juries and judges who sentence murderers to death, not the governor of TX. No surprise to me whatever that he and Hugo are buddies. If Clover thinks America is so vile why doesnt he move to Venezuela?

Citgo employees participated and assisted in this event. Citgo has gone way too far and a boycott of a fungible asset like oil is not nearly enough of a penalty. How can Citgo's legal status or assets be directly sanctioned?

So I guess the UN speech was the kickoff of his fund-raising tour. Hugo Chavez, (D)-Ven. is hitting all of the expected spots. When is his speaking engagement at Berkeley?

We are beginning to suspect he was invited by Karl Rove.
