Potlatch, please help me with this!
"You forgot the "Dinosaur Media alert".
Craigslist caught on faster than CD's or DVD's. I buy and sell a ton of stuff there and haven't cracked a paper in years.
I see newspapers as "quaint". And they really can't afford to pay reporters with any experience or expertise. If it were not for spell checker they would REALLY look bad.
Craig's list will be responsible for a lot of young Americans never using a newspaper to sell or buy anything.
In our two county area, apartments, condos and rooms for rent are basically gone from the fish wraps. Why? Craig's list.
Thanks!
I parted out my motorcycle, bought a bass speaker, sold a basketball hoop. My wife is practically furnishing our house out of that place. Before Craigslist I would use the newspaper for some stuff, but for the most part, I never bothered. Because the paper charges people it becomes a different dynamic.
I literally don't even bother with the newspaper want-ads for cars, furniture, electronics - ANYTHING. And even when it was all there was, I didn't use it a fraction as much as I use craigslist.
It reminds me of the old phrase in South Dakota, where wal-mart is pretty much "it": If wal-mart doesn't have it, you don't need it.
Craigslist is our classified ad "Wal-mart" and the newspaper is the "general store".
This past summer a younger relative moved from Oregon back to N California. He contacted us and his parents to get him the ads for apartments. Basically, there weren't any except those geared for illegal aliens and retired people.
He went to Craigs list and found several places and picked the best. He sold one of his mountain bikes via Craigs list before he move and had a bidding going on between a few buyers.
In the close to 3 months he has been back in N California, he has used Craigs list to buy and sell other items.
I gotta tell you, I think Craigslist is even giving eBay a run for their money. I parted out one motorcycle on ebay and, although I did get more dollars per part, it was a real pain boxing stuff up and shipping it out, and dealing with paypal, etc.
With Craigslist, I type up an ad, attach a picture, and people come out to get the stuff. The only thing I need ebay for is stuff where a LARGE audience is required.
I suppose if one lives in a rural area ebay would be better, both for buyers and sellers. Craigslist is probably not very helpful to people in Wyoming.
It appears that with many or most things, go with Craig's list first, then EBay and then the place of last resort the local dinosaur fishwrap's classified ads.
Ejector seat?!?!?! You must be joking?!?!?!
yayyyyyyy!
I have answered calls in the last 2 weeks from both the Boston Glob and the NYSlimes offering me almost completely free weekday AND Sunday delivery.
They were incensed when I refused their almost free offers.
They were even more incensed when I told them I don't countenence liars and thieves.
Yesterday I received an offer via mail from the NYSlimes also offering an incredibly cheap deal for delivery. I happily wrote invectives on the return slip and sent it back to them so they would have to pay the postage. Made my day.
thanks for the ping!
You're quite welcome bitt!

Soros is deeply saddened.....
another 50 million going down the tubes......
They're just following the typical liberal business model.
I am contributing to decline of the dinosaur media as I have finally cancelled my subscription to the local liberal rag. Let them wither and fade. The sooner the better.
Hummmm...maybe I should make printable inserts to sent back to them in their prepaid envelopes? Something like, "When you stop publishing fiction, I'll stop sending fictitious subscriptions." What do ya say? :oD
