The Case for Immigration
New York Sun ^ | September 22, 2006 | DIANA FURCHTGOTT-ROTH

Posted on 09/22/2006 7:15:49 AM PDT by Dane

It was raining in Washington last week, and vendors selling $5 and $10 umbrellas appeared on the streets. They had Hispanic accents, and were undoubtedly some of the unskilled immigrants that Steven Malanga referred to in his recent City Journal article, "How Unskilled Immigrants Hurt Our Economy."

I already had an umbrella. But the many purchasers of the umbrellas did not seem to notice that the economy was being hurt. Rather, they were glad of the opportunity to stay dry before their important meetings.

The City Journal article is worth a look because it reflects an attitude becoming more common these days in the debate. The article speaks approvingly of immigrants from Portugal, Asia, China, India, Haiti, and Jamaica. But it also makes it clear that we have too many Mexicans, a "flood of immigrants" who cause high unemployment rates among the unskilled. They work in shrinking industries, drive down wages of native-born Americans, cost millions in welfare, and retard America's technology.

These are serious charges indeed. Similar charges, that immigrants have caused native-born Americans to quit the labor market, have been made by Steven Camarota of the Center for Immigration Studies. But are they true?

Juxtapose the above this article with the below link of little Richy Lowry's(who probably never picked up a shovel in his life), Trent Lott like male cheerleader victory dance, in which I found the below italicized very telling.

But a fence itself isn’t sufficient. The key is stepped-up interior enforcement to cut off the jobs magnet that draws so many illegals here.

Link

Oh the horror, little Richy, the American economy is producing a plethora of jobs.

I'm all for LEGAL IMMIGRATION. It's the illegal kind that has no business in our sovereign country. The illegals have no more right to be here than the millions who are waiting to enter our country through LEGAL means as prescribed by our laws. Illegals shagging ass across the border is not immigration. It's a crime!

One bright thought - gang wars between largely catholic hispanics and muslim inner city types.

Annual immigration in 1999 equaled 1% of the labor force — by 2005 it had declined to 0.8%. Hispanics, including undocumented workers, peaked in 2000 as a percent of the labor force at 0.5%, and by 2004 accounted for only 0.4% (0.3% for Mexicans) of the labor force.

This data is bogus. Additionally, we need to process immigrants who have been waiting overseas 10 to 30 years to immigrate here legally prior to considering these lawbreakers. The DHS can barely handle the influx of legal immigrants now, and so to even consider an additional 12 to 30 million is insane.

Do you: You're a real piece of work. You really are brain dead aren't you.

And why don't you fill out your Profile so we know at the least what state you live in? Are a you a coward? Forget that, we know you are otherwise your Profile wouldn't be blank.

BTW, I don't think you're a "Dane". I think you're an illegal Mexican posting on a stolen computer on NetZero or from a library.

Have a nice day moron.

Let's see now, here's another article written last April by Ms. Furchtgott-Roth in which she cites Harvard economist George Borjas.
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/ideas_opinions/story/409103p-346286c.html
And here's an article by Mr. Borjas in which he states his opposition to illegal aliens.
http://www.ksg.harvard.edu/news/opeds/2000/borjas_mexico_nyt.htm

Isn't it a bad idea to cite experts who impeach your argument?

The back of the line is too good for lawbreakers. Oh wait, are you referring to the long line back to Mexico?

No one I can think of. Of course we want the back groung checks, medical testing, guarantee of employment, knowlege of English, etc... that we have by law always required (Ellis Island, anyone ever hear of it?) to be enforced.

.

My Position from the start has been:
If we need people we can process in new citizens who have never committed any crime including entering illegally.

And who are drawn from every country in the world

From Iceland To South Africa, From Norway to South Korea
Every corner of the globe, not giving ANY preference to the few nations to our immediate south.

My Position Has Not Changed.

I like my amnesty plan!
Please call them INVADERS and don't compare them to people who are legal aliens!
IF you aid and abet CRIMINALS, you are a criminal!

President Bush has been great on most things except for our border.
He has been great on the war on terrorists.
But on the border he is a gross failure.
He acted fast and correct on the 3,000+ people murdered at the world trade center.
He ignores the many rapes, murders and robberies which is much larger than the murders and money loss at the world trade center.
More Americans are abducted on the border of Mexico than in Iraq!

Start building the fence.
It should be made a felony for Criminals who overstay their visas and Invaders.

I believe we should give amnesty to these poor CRIMINALS or INVADERS.
This should be a 2 week amnesty to get the heck out of our Country.
The ones who ignore this amnesty should be buried in a tent city jail and fined $10,000 or buried elsewhere.
All aiders and abettors of these CRIMINALS or INVADERS should get 1 year in a tent city jail and a $10,000 fine for each CRIMINAL aided.
Those in government should be the first ones charged.

The issue isn't immigration - its illegal invaders.

Furthermore, American is a much vaunted "melting pot" because the immigrants who came here, came from varying different societies and cultures. The common glue which held them together and accelerated their assimialtion was the use of a common tongue: English, and the fact that they WERE from varying different ethnicities. The only thing they all had in common was a desire to be an American.

This accomplishment - the creation of a unique person - the American - would not have been possible if all or the overwhelming majority of immigrants over several decades came from one single country, spoke one language and demanded and received, special linguistic consideration.

Comprenden Ustedes?

Sources: Cop Killer is Illegal Immigrant

Juan Leonardo Quintero, 32, has been jailed without bond after being charged with capital murder in the death of decorated Houston Police Officer Rodney Johnson.
By Tracee Evans
Friday, September 22, 2006
Quintero is scheduled to make his first court appearance Monday before Judge Joan Campbell. Johnson, 40, was pronounced dead Thursday night at Ben Taub Hospital after being shot multiple times with a 9mm handgun, according to prosecutors.

The shooting occurred around 5:30 p.m. following a routine traffic stop on Braniff Street near Hobby Airport. Johnson had just handcuffed Quintero and put him in the back of a patrol car. According to prosecutors, Quintero pulled a gun from his waistband and started firing, hitting Johnson several times.

Meantime, local law enforcement sources tell KTRH News that Quintero is in the U.S. illegally and has an extensive criminal history. KTRH News has learned Quintero was charged with indecency with a child in 1998 and driving while intoxicated in 1995.

Officials say as many a three individuals who had been in Quintero's truck fled the scene. The suspect was still in the patrol car when other officers arrived in response to Johnson's distress call. Shell casings and the gun were recovered from the back seat, according to court papers.

Johnson's widow, Joslyn, is also on the force. They have five children.

The 100 Club is issuing the family a check for $10,000 to help with immediate expenses. Club Executive Director Rick Hartley says the organization will help the family financially as well as provide college tuition assistance for all five Johnson children.

To make a donation to help the Johnson family, see www.the100club.org.

OH, so are saying that someone who was born in the United States has never committed murder?

I guess you would tell the families of the victims of ted bundy and jeffrey dahmer that they were illegal aliens.

Evil knows of no ethnic boundries nor immigration status.

yes I have and I have cleaned toilets, and bussed tables.

Bussing tables is probably the most disgusting job, most people flush the toilet, but when people go to restaurants, they can be complete pigs.

And seriously do you think this guy, has done one ounce of manual labor in his life.
