Over the 2000-2005 period, immigration levels remained very high and roughly half of new immigrant workers were illegal. This report finds that the arrival of new immigrants (legal and illegal) in a state results in a decline in employment among young native-born workers in that state. Our findings indicate that young native-born workers are being displaced in the labor market by the arrival of new immigrants...

Can anybody say tancredo propaganda.
I have a slightly funny feeling that this could be an IBTZ moment.
Of course, I could be wrong. Interesting piece.
Quick, somebody go tell President Bush that illegals are invading our country by the millions and they are taking jobs away from American citizens and are committing a great many crimes. I'm sure the President will come to the aid of Americans if he only knew about this travesty. hehehe
On Fox & Friends there was a segment on the displacement of young workers by illegals but I didn't catch where they got their information.
Yep...I appear to be wrong on the IBTZ. So...I take it back.
However, I think this article is what I would call "advocacy." Not a bad thing, but something to approach skeptically. You know...lies, damned lies, and statistics.
It didn't take long for the idiots to arrive.
"I'm beginning to wonder if David Duke has put out another memo to Storm Front about infiltrating websites using illegal immigration threads. (FreeRepublic was on their list)"
LaRaza certainly has.
Last night my wife said a family of 6 showed up in the emergency room of the hospital where she works. The father said in broken english that they were all ill with some kind of stomach pains except the children appeared to be fine. In any case they all got "free" checkups and a social worker due to the fact that they had no insurance or money to pay for care.
By today they've probably already gotten their emergency food stamps and are well on their way to renting a house on the taxpayer dime.
Man! THAT must be why he have such historically high unemployment!
Oh, wait...
Can you post the link or the memo?
Chart 5 shows that even among males with 13+ years of education there has been a statistically significant decrease in employment. Something strange is going on because I don't believe for a minute that immigrants are displacing highly educated males. I suspect that there are social factors other than immigration affecting this. And those social factors are affecting all demographic groups.
It's too bad you don't have the guts to confront people head on and make your remarks behind their back.
"So, let me ask this single question: If half of all the new jobs are being filled by illegals, what would happen if the illegals suddenly had to go home, especially given the fact our unemployment rate is hovering somewhere between 4-5%."
Dont ask such logical questions
My explanation: Baby boomers are retiring. This analysis is flawed flawed flawed.
Take that back. Table 5 only looks at 16-24 year olds. Whatever is going on, it also affects the highly educated. Therefore, immigration is not the explanation.

Some business owners that wouldn't have been in able to stay in business or wouldn't have been in business in the first place if they didn't hire illegal aliens at wages below the going rate will go out of business. Other business owners that made a killing off of paying lower wages to illegal aliens will have to make due with a little less profit when they pay American citizens to work for them. I don't see a problem.
It's an invasion.
I need to make sure I understand.
You are saying, It does not matter to you that businesses will go out of business or not be able to make "a killing" aka a profit? Am I understanding you correctly?
If so, in your opinion, what is a fair profit for a business to make?
Unfort they were too busy. One of their members was too busy interviewing Pat Buchanan last week on their favorite radio show
13+ years of education includes those that are in college. When my daughters were in college a few years back they needed to work extra jobs for spending money. There are a lot of college kids that look for lower skilled part-time jobs like working in fast food joints, restaurants and convenience stores while they are going through college.
That figures.
Control the borders ASAP.
Implement meaningful interior enforcement.
Create a guest worker program with zero possibility of amnesty.
Must be a paid job for them, probably on the La Raza payroll
As if the proof of these numbers isn't evident around us everyday.
I heard in passing the other day that another emergency room is shutting it's doors in Los Angeles. I think it was Daniel Freeman Medical Center.
Between 2000 and 2005, 4.1 million immigrant workers arrived from abroad, accounting for 86 percent of the net increase in the total number of employed persons (16 and older), the highest share ever recorded in the United States.
Of the 4.1 million new immigrant workers, between 1.4 and 2.7 million are estimated to be illegal immigrants. This means that illegal immigrants accounted for up to 56 percent of the net increase in civilian employment in the United States over the past five years.
There is some funny math here.
Half the new jobs taken by immigrants? Hogwash.
Yes, you are understanding me. I don't care if every business that hired illegal aliens goes out of business.
The business owners that have hired legal workers and made a fair profit all along will still be in business. The business owners that have made higher profits by hiring illegal workers will be on an even playing field again, profit wise, with those that have obeyed the law all along.
"On Fox & Friends there was a segment on the displacement of young workers by illegals but I didn't catch where they got their information."
No need too. Stop off at any local State technical high school. Ask the kids who's taking up all the entry level / apprentice jobs in the trades.
see post 33. Don't believe anyone....stop off at your local state trade high school. Ask for yourself.
bump for publicity
"Dane and the rest of the pro-invasion crowd"
And their arguments are so thoughtful, rational and lucid . . . oh no, I believe I just stuck my tongue through my cheek!
Series, they remind me of the young Kentuckian being tested for a railroad job. The question said, "Train A is heading south at 30 mph, while train B is heading north at 25 mph. The switch at the depot is five miles from where you are working. What do you do?"
He got to this question, scribbled his answer and turned in his exam.
The proctor read his answer: "I'd fetch my brother."
"Why would you do that?", asked the proctor of the applicant.
"`Cause he ain't never seen no train wreck!"
Their screeds are a lot like that ...............
Hmm, a newbie who only posts immigration threads, yeah I smell a ZOT candidate.
I agree with you completely on principle. However, there are some issues with the functionality of the current system of checking for illegals. It needs to be modernized. So for now, I would add the word "intentionally" to your position.
Many employers in my neck of the woods are scared to death to pursue immigration status too aggressively because they will get sued by lawyers just circling around waiting to catch someone on discrimination. The loss to companies that lose those battles is enormous and good, well-intentioned companies can get completely blown out of the water and that can hurt or destroy entire communities.
I once had a boss that never hired an Mexican because he was scared to death that he would get nailed one way or another. It was never spoken, and he felt that what he was doing was deeply morally wrong. But he was caught between a rock and a hard place because of the way the government was doing it's business. But I can understand how this would scare LEGAL immigrants to death.
This problem needs to be straightened out soon...for the good of companies AND for the good of immigrants. I think congress/senate has at least started in the right direction. However, this is a very complex problem. It is bigger than just "building a wall" although, that is a fine first step.
I think there are some that never left.
Amen, amen, amen. We could be headed for a serious and significant worker shortage in this country.
Trades are for less educated groups of people. Probably immigrants are taking up many of those jobs. I question the information because it indicates they are even taking over jobs requiring a lot of education.
I'm sure you're right about that. They will never change a single mind. The dishonesty about this issue is a complete turnoff, and that is why they will fail with this tactic.
;-)
Emotion and fear are NOT our friends when confronting this issue. The hysteria over it is absolutely driving me crazy.
BTW, Where'd Tiger go? I'd like an answer.
One wins in many ways. ; )
Is it possible, this is such a dire situation that the gov is keeping the real data buried as for the general public not to panic and invest in canned food and concrete, etc.?
Someone is getting paid to do this? Holy cow, I'm being ripped off.
"Can you post the link or the memo?"
You mean the meom from LaRaza telling it's minions to infiltrate FR? I think Dane has that one.
"Trades are for less educated groups of people."
Yea, funny.
The guys who I graduated with from my local trade high school 30 years ago are now the local business owners (myself included). They own plumbing supply places...Auto Body shops...Electrician services and "less educated" businesses like that....more than a few are raking in $250,000 a year.
