I dunno. The CIA has declared him not involved, not that that means anything.
There is a thread on FR that clearly discredited the claim that the khaki wearing bearded fellow was Ahmadinejad, and the focus was then shifted to the guy in the blazer. I couldn't find it with my initial search, hopefully someone else will link to it.
FWIW he has claimed 'I've had experience manipulating the Americans' so that sort of hints that he may have been involved. I think the guy with the question mark is the guy to focus on. To me that looks like a better match anyways.
Media reports in the immediate aftermath of the story a year ago or so focused on the khaki guy, but FR had already discredited that assumption. I haven't seen any hostage claim it was any particular person in any photograph. That would be a logical starting point.
I saw that thread, and the profile was definately not abjaba, what's his name.
There was some other information also, and I can't remember what it was.
Although, the old photo does resemble him as a young man.
