262 The SAW applicants had to provide evidence that they had worked on perishable crops for at least 90 days between May 1, 1985, and May 1, 1986; their residence did not have to be continuous or unlawful. Nearly 1 million illegal aliens had received legal permanent residence under SAW, twice the number of foreigners normally employed in agriculture.
