'5 units of Pak Army made India shudder in Kargil'

New Delhi: Digging old dirt, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has squarely blamed India for the Kargil conflict, claiming that the conflict occurred because of India's attempts to find a casus belli (an event or political occurrence that brings about a declaration of war) by reporting 'make-belief attacks' from the Pakistani side.

Pakistan has traditionally been the belligerent one in the two countries' many, many wars (considering they'be been countries since the 1970's). It is sort of similar to Israel/Palestine. One side start the conflict, gets beaten, then blames the other.

The BJP government really messed up in Kargil. India should have ignored US protestations and destroyed Pakistan.

I would give them the benefit of the doubt(s) on Kargil. They were a caretaker government then & was looking at & succeeded in isolating Pakistan internationally. An all out war was not preferable as well given that the by july, the monsoons would have spread across India, making the movement of troops & equipment difficult.

Kandahar & the 2 mobilisations in 2001-02 were on the other hand, blunders of the highest order.

That would be since 1949, IIRC, late '40s in any event.

"Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has squarely blamed India for the Kargil conflict, claiming that the conflict occurred because of India's attempts to find a casus belli (an event or political occurrence that brings about a declaration of war) by reporting 'make-belief attacks' from the Pakistani side."

The more likely explanation is that Pakistan's ISI made the attacks from the Pakistani side (without Pak Army or Musharraf's knowledge) while telling Musharraf that India was making them up.

Pak's ISI intel organization has been as treasonous over there as has our lecherous CIA here in the U.S. with its constant anti-Bush "leaks" and blown ops (e.g. our CIA missed 9/11, blew the whole WMD in Iraq call, missed the fall of the Berlin Wall, etc.).

Musharraf himself commanded over the operations in Kargil. Its a well known fact. Get a grip.

Wow-wonderful theory. But slight problem with it is that if the ISI made those attacks, how could the Indian media get transcripts of conversations made by Musharraf to his deputy from Beijing in 1999,during the course of the war.

& Why were some of the "ISI fellows" killed in the war having Pakistani army ID cards-namely that of the Northern Light Infantry regiment (Based out of the Northern Areas of Gilgit & Baltistan)-why were those captured accepted back by the Pakistani army???Why were some of those killed given the "Sher E Pakistan",Pakistan's highest gallantary award???

& Finally why were there massive riots in the Northern Areas if these were just ISI personnel??

More over ISI is an intelligence organisation not an infantry unit with the experience of fighting high altitude warfare.

Sheesh, people. Intel agencies just write fake orders to military units. James Bond doesn't go fire the Queen's cannon himself.

Rolls eyes...

Well you sound hilarious. You think ISI can just write off some fake orders to some units and pull off a military operation of the size of Kargil with all the high altitude resources, equipments, ammunitions, acclimatized soldiers and other logistics without the knowledge of the GHQ. LOL.

Quit watch too many James Bond movies.

In WW2, funding for the German's V2 was cut off. It was funded via fake orders from the top in one of the most patrolled/overseen bureaucracies in History.

Useful piece of info when dealing with Pakistan...........

The ISI draws a vast chunk of it's officer cadre from the Army-it has as much independence as the army allows it to have.
