I'd like to know if you drive drunk.

I'd like to know how you define "drunk".

I define it the same way the law enforcement defines it.If anyone thinks it's OK to drink and drive just say so.Having lost someone very dear to me some years ago to a POS drunk has forever shaped my opinion of people who drink and drive.

well, I personally do NOT define drunk driving the same way as the police or the law.

I believe that everyone is different, in body size and tolerence. To give a one size fits all alcohol limit is rediculous.

If someone is driving all over the road and swerving then by all means arrest them, but if someone is driving straight, within the speed limits and is obeying all other road rules then I say LEAVE THEM ALONE!!!

And I don't care what anyone else thinks:)

It should be commonly known now a days not to drink and drive.

This is not the 60's.

Do you drive drunk, or do you make money off of drunk drivers?

Neither.

I define it the same way the law enforcement defines it.

If that's the case, even you are guilty.

All you have to do is attract the attention of law enforcement.

It's not just about booze anymore.

No, not as a general rule. I avoid drunkeness in general, and driving under the influence in particular.

Of course the logical answer to all this is to outlaw booze and motor vehicles...

statistics will show that the percentage of "drunk" drivers causing accidents is MUCH higher than the percentage of non intoxicated persons causing accidents....the 84 - 1 figure means nothing since there are 10's of millions of non intoxicated drivers verses a handfull of jerks who put us ALL in jepordy by getting behind the wheel without ALL of their faculties......you know this but yet you will still argue the point.....

me thinks that you've had your licence yanked before....

just a guess.....could be wrong.....

1 more thing...of the 83....how many of those were mechanical or medical related....or weather related.....etc...etc....further lowering your stastitical ratio compared to the 1 IDIOT who made a choice to drive DRUNK!!

hypothetical situation...

you leave a bar and your car won't start....

2 friends offer you a ride home......one is a young kid with maybe 5 years driving experience....but you know they've had nothing to drink all nite.....the other a middle aged male, you've observed drinking heavily all nite and is slurring his words while offering you a ride.....

which one are you getting in the car with.....now remember, drunks only kill 1 in 84 people in car accidents...

Whoops! The MADD crew and their cowed legislators have pushed the 'Drivers become ATMs' button too hard and too often. DUI enforcement has become a nice little earner for governments similar to parking meters and like anything else the breakover point has been reached. Granted, DUI suspects aren't exactly a warm and cuddly group worthy of much sympathy but they are like any other individuals making a guns-or-butter choice.

"1 more thing...of the 83....how many of those were mechanical or medical related....or weather related.....etc...etc....further lowering your stastitical ratio compared to the 1 IDIOT who made a choice to drive DRUNK!!"

And how many killed someone because they were: talking on a cell phone, speeding, too old to drive, too young to drive, not properly licensed, suicidal, fiddling with their radio/CD player, reaching for a dropped cigarette or other item, talked to a passenger while not watching the road, ran a red light/stop sign or ignored some other traffic control sign, or eating. All of these things involve a choice, a dangerous one.

:statistics will show that the percentage of "drunk" drivers causing accidents is MUCH higher than the percentage of non intoxicated persons causing accidents...."

Bull. On any given day a city may have dozens of accidents. Most of those are caused by sober drivers.

"2 friends offer you a ride home......one is a young kid with maybe 5 years driving experience....but you know they've had nothing to drink all nite.....the other a middle aged male, you've observed drinking heavily all nite and is slurring his words while offering you a ride....."

In that scenario I will take the young kid with 5 years experience. However, if my friend were drinking and I judged he was at .08 I would still ride with him.

"me thinks that you've had your licence yanked before....

Thee thinks unthinkingly. I have NEVER had my license suspended or revoked!

drunks are more likely to cause an accident than sober people.....there.....simple enough for you to understand yet?

"drunks are more likely to cause an accident than sober people.....there.....simple enough for you to understand yet?"

Let's consider then the number 42,000, which is approximately the number of traffic fatalities each year. If drunks account for about 500 of those deaths, by your logic, 500 is greater than 41,500. Go back to school and take some more math classes.

I'd like to know how you define "drunk".

It depends on what the definition of "is" is.

"only a da** fool would try"

I might agree if one had to be drunk to get a DWI. But today a glass of wine before and after dinner is legally drunk. 2 or 3 beers with the boys on the way home from work and you're legally drunk.

DWI laws now are just another money maker for big government.

And what is your definition of a "drunk?"

I don't know, other than to say it is not what the statutes say.

The statutes say one is "drunk" at a .08 BAC or BrAC, even without any outward signs of impairment.
