quite a bit of 10mm ammo is only loaded to 40 S&W specs... That's precisely how the .40 S&W was developed. Full-load 10mm just had too much recoil for effective follow-up shots, according to the FBI. The load they liked was used to develop the shorter-case .40 S&W.
