US Senator George Allen is responding to more allegations of racist behavior.
The latest comes from a former college teammate.
Former teammate Doctor Ken Shelton says, "Allen said he came to Virginia because he wanted to play football in a place where 'blacks knew their place.'"
"He used the N-word on a regular basis back then," said Shelton, who was in Salon.com.
During a hunting outing with Allen and another teammate, Shelton says Allen drove the three to a black neighborhood and "he proceeded to take the doe's head and stuff it into a mailbox."
Bishop Gerald Glenn says he used to see Allen as a Confederate flag waving redneck and has talked to the senator about his perception problem in the African American community.
While the two still disagree on key issues, Glenn says assassinating Allen's character does nothing for the voters of Virginia.
Allen told reporters today that he and Doctor Shelton weren't close and haven't spoken to each other in more than 30 years. Other teammates have released statements saying they've never heard Allen use racial slurs.
Allen's approval rating is down in the latest poll released today by SurveyUSA. The poll was taken last week, so the numbers do not reflect possible reaction to the Salon.com article.
I dunno. The kid he called Macaca was working for the dems and got his rocks off spreading the tale, i think the kid was macaca.

Ken Shelton is an anti-tobacco and environmental activist. He has already been proven wrong by several of Allen's other UVA teammates on two of his allegations, that Allen gave him the nickname "Wizard" in honor of the KKK and that Allen enrolled at the University of Virginia because he "wanted to go to a place that kept black people in their place." The only other person who was supposedly there during this "deer head incident" conveniently died three months ago. Ken Shelton is NOT credible, PERIOD!!!!
He has my vote but not beyond his current seat.
Senator Byrd is running for reelection in the very next state to Virginia and he used the n word on TV just a few years ago.
Oh, it's ok to use it if you are a democrat. Oh, sorry for the confusion.

I have told black, polish, redneck, yankee, southern, liberal,woman, white,cowboy,men jokes. And I am a redneck southern white woman. This is sooooooooooooo stupid and awful. Chrissy Matthews grew up in a more racist area than I ever did and like I said I am from the SOUTH. I have never called anyone the N word. There was a black dog in town with that name when I was a child. Not my dog though.

Then why did he apologize? I have no idea why he called the guy that name, but it sounds like it was something that could be construed as a slur, and Allen didn't know it. Allen came off like a light-weight. Still, long way to go.

Ken Shelton, who is apparently acting in concert with someone, lives outside of the Charlotte NC area. Looks to me like about 100 miles southwest.
The incident below also occurred about 100 miles outside the Charlotte area but in the other direction (southeast), not long before Shelton started floating this story, which just happens to involve someone who is dead.
I find it difficult to believe that Allen asked a BLACK teammate to tell them where blacks lived so he could do something like this, and then proceeded to do it in his presence. The teammate's surviving relative (an aunt I think) says that teammate always spoke very highly of Allen.
Anyway, I know what "THEY" would say. Just a strange coincidence.

HOKE COUNTY, N.C. -- Every day in the past, Evelyn Matthews has gone outside her home to get her mail, hoping for something good. But when she opened the mailbox and peeked inside one day this week, something else peeked out back at her. She was standing face to face with a deer head.
"It was scary," said Matthews. "When you see two eyes looking at you, it's really frightening."
She ran for help and warned her neighbors -- and for good reason. They found deer parts in their mailbox.
"It's nasty," said neighbor Michael Degregorio. "It's just disgusting, really."
Investigators called it a teen prank, and said they caught the teen who pulled it off. The suspect has promised to get his victims new and clean mailboxes. They promised not to press charges.
"Everybody gets in trouble when they're young," said Degregorio.
Matthews and Degregorio said they now think twice about getting their mail.
"Like I told my husband, I don't know if I want to check my mailbox anymore or not," said Matthews.
I lived in Virginia for 22 years, including while George Allen was Governor. I attended an event at a public housing development in Alexandria for a candidate for the general assembly, at which George Allen spoke passionately and movingly of his commitment ot end poverty and help people own homes. Afterward he spoke cordially and worked the crowd which was entirely African American. He did not have to do this, and there were no TV cameras there, but he did it because he believed it. I had forgotten about it until all this stuff came up, and now I am pissed off.
You may not believe it, but there are actually conservative Republicans in Virginia who are not racist! And you don't have to be a redneck or act like one to get elected in Virginia. People pushing this story are ignorant and bigoted themselves, about how modern Southerners think and vote. We know the truth about George Allen. And we also know the truth about the sleazy liberals who are behind this outrageous, unprecedented smear campaign.
He didn't "call the guy" any name. He apologized because with the media onslaught, what else can he do? He didn't say that he meant anything by it, because he didn't.
We simply cannot let this crap slide. It'll be your guy next.
You know what pisses me off is how gleeful supposed Conservatives are to repeat over and over and over a transparent Democrat Campaign smear job as fact and use it in the mistaken notion that smearing Allen now will some how help their choice for 2008.
Conservative better quit worrying about 2008 and start worrying about 2006.
