Boeing adds 34 orders (Now leads Airbust 666 to 222 in orders for 2006)

For the second consecutive year, The Boeing Co. has sold more than 500 of its popular 737s.

Boeing added 26 more of the Renton-built, single-aisle jets to its 2006 order book Thursday, pushing its net order total for the year for that model to 503. The company did not identify the customer or customers for the latest 737s.

In addition to those planes, Boeing also sold another eight 787s -- two to an existing customer and six to a new customer. Boeing did not identify the customers. The latest 787 sales give gives Boeing 110 net 787 orders in 2006. Since the 787 program was launched, Boeing has won 401 firm orders from 32 customers, plus another 43 commitments. The 787 is scheduled to enter airline service in the spring of 2008. First flight is about a year off.

The 34 latest orders for the 737s and 787s would be worth more than $3.5 billion at the average list price of the planes, but customers typically get discounts of more than 20 percent.

With just over three months left in 2006 to sell more planes, Boeing has 666 net orders, which is more than it had at this time last year. Boeing ended 2005 with 1,002 net orders.

Boeing is on track to sell more jetliners than Airbus this year, something it has not done since 2000. Airbus had 222 firm orders through August.

And, even better, Boeing is going to deliver the ordered aircraft to its customers.

Hopefully the nails will begin to be driven into Airbust's coffin very soon.

Sweet!

I heard a news report that a few airlines might be ordering a few 747-8I ( Pax version ) in a few weeks.
Boeing might just reach over 700 orders this year.

Will not be long before the EUs start hollering about this. Undoubtedly Bush’s fault.

Possible candidates for launch customer of the new 747 passenger version. My money is on Quantas. It will be able to cover the Sydney to Heathrow route non-stop that is a major money maker for Quantas. Its really pushing it for the 777 long range version to handle this non-stop.

Singapore airlines, Quantas, Emirates (yes, the A380 cancellations are coming), JAL. All strong candidates for possible orders this year.

When the first 747-8I is ordered this year, it will be the sweetest victory of all. That now fired ex-CEO of Airbust was bragging at the begining of this year that Boeing would not sell a single passenger version of the new 747 this year.

Indeed. European companies are becoming increasingly uncompetative to the US companies. So just like they are doing with Microsoft, the have the socialist vampires at the EU try to do their dirty work for them.

Its not far off that the EU officially claims Boeing is a monopoly and tries to sue them for billions to fund their socialist utopia.

I just flew to Europe on both Boeing equipment and the Airbus (different legs), and the Airbus was by far the more comfortable plane. For legroom, it was like business class compared to the 747.

I'm waiting to hear of ANY A380 cancellations.

Considering all the delays in delivery dates, I figured some should have come by now, if they were coming at all.

I believe legroom is the result of how the airlines direct the manufacturer to layout their aircraft.

Seat configuration is not designated by Boeing or Airbust. Its up to each airlines how far apart they space their seats and how many seats they wish to put in.

Well for some reason British Airways decide to cram us all in like sardines on the 10 hr LA to Heathrow flight, then let us stretch out in the Airbus for the two hour hop from London to Prague.

Next time it's Aer Lingus for me.

Seat pitch is generally up to the airlines, and not a Boeing vs. Airbus issue. Airlines can densely pack passengers in with 31" pitch (or less) or offer more generous legroom in coach. Some Airbus planes are a little wider than their Boeing counterparts, which allows airlines to offer a slightly wider coach seat. But seat pitch varies.

Airbus is more comfortable and spacious...which are more econcomical to operate? This is what will drive decisions.
