I have no "pet candidate" for 2008. I can observe the actions of Allen and recognize bad judgment. I have watched him from afar and have been mildly interested since hearing good things from Freepers. I will not support a candidate who demonstrates a lack of commitment to his/her values whether a conservative or flaming radical liberal. To me it is a lack of moral courage.

I had forgotten all about that possibility of VP, as far as learning, when Webb announced, I said this would be a tempering experience for Allen, but I didn't foresee him being so tainted with the race thing.
You know how the media works, This smear campaign is just to lay the groundwork, to frame the dialog for any future campaigns by Allen.
Allen can defeat all this now, but when he goes national, these won't be treated by the media as new accusations, but will be treated as history, in other words they are manufacturing baggage that they can drag out in 08.

I had only heard pied-noir in reference to the Piegan, Kainai, and Siksika tribes of the northern Great Plains and the eastern foothills of the Rockies who were collectively known as the Blackfeet. The ones who caused so much grief for the American fur trappers in the early 1800s.

The current crop of candidates the GOP is pushing for President (Rice, McCain, Allen, etc.) is underwheming and uninspiring at the least. I doubt the voters will want another Washington insider in 2008. There are many good dark-horse candidates out there.
Here are people we should look at:

- Tim Pawlenty, Governor of Minnesota
- Mike Huckabee, Governor of Arkansas
- Bill Owens, retiring Governor of Colorado
- Tommy Thompson, former Govenror of Wisconsin & former Secretary of Health
Some future possiblities:
- Ken Blackwell, if elected Governor of Ohio in November
- Lynn Swann, if elected Governor of Pennsylvania in November
- Dick DeVos, if elected Governor of Michigan in November
