Ouch....that will leave a mark...

That's about the only thing that'll definitely get you kicked out of politics, until a Kennedy does it.

Proving the maxim yet again that to lose an election, an incumbent needs to be caught in bed with a dead woman or a live boy.

Please tell me which state and political party is involved.
Your post makes it a total mystery for those of us not familiar with this race.

There now.

Foley is a Republican.
Rookie mistake...but an easy one to make.

was he leading in the race, and does this mean the RAT is elected unopposed? Is there any way to get a new GOP candidate or start a write in campaign?

You're wrong...it would have raised their poll.....numbers.
To: Large
The piece did not mention party affiliation and the congressman is gay. I could only assume he was a democrat.
To: Lunatic Fringe
Wow how stupid can this guy be? I read in the paper everyday about morons who try and pick up a 14 year old on the internet only to find out it's Officer John down at the local Police Station.
Hasn't he seen the Dateline specials they run monthly, where they bust the perverts doing just this?

Mark Foley is a Republican.
Member of the House since 1995, representing the 16th CD in Florida.
Shame on him!

Sounds as if Rep. Foley might have a few skeltons in his closet he doesn't want to let out. Also makes you wonder if the rumors are true about him being gay/bisexual.
To: edcoil
To: Lunatic Fringe
He may be a 'short eyes', but the released emails were not overtly sexual. He asked what the kid wanted for his birthday, and to send a photo.
Hell, I just wrote a nephew of mine and asked the same things.

Those rumors caused him to drop out of the 2004 US Senate race - although Foley said that wasn't the reason. He said he dropped out because of a sick parent.
To: Pokey78
The way that the WaPo reports that story, it sounds innocent enough. Has there been more information released?

Have we forgotten about "my boy lollipop"? Barney Frank? Unfortunately, he and others are still there.

To: trumandogz
Wrong assumption. If he were a dem his sexual "orientation" and sick emails to a former page wouldn't have been a problem.

I read the article, it sounds innocent enough to me. What it does sound like is a smear campaign by a dimorat.

We just can't catch a break this year. Foley's district is somewhat marginal. I guess Clay shaw and Katherine Harris's old district are safe now. The RATS will allocation all their resources to Foley's district.

Somehow, I do not think that Dateline will attempt to lure Barney Frank to a suburban house with a 14 year old boy.
To: Gunflint
but the released emails were not overtly sexual. You only saw 3 of them; there were at least five of them.

Apparently he is an infiltration into the Republican Party. No true Republican, would act that way. We have a lot of them who have infiltrated our party.

He's been in the House for a while. I don't think he'd just drop out if this were totally false and he had nothing to hide.
