Seems a little self-destruction is in play just before the elections. Dems will claim divine intervention. Why didn't the FL GOP root this guy out before he got where he got?

Wow. An email scandal involving a 16 year old boy and a gay Republican congressman. Thanks Mark. This should blunt any real momentum the GOP has been able to build in the past couple of weeks.

This is the usual Democrat crap. It was fine with the when that creep Jerry STUDDS (D-MA-8th district) was CAUGHT with a teen-aged page boy, and they didn't even TRY to kick him out of Congress. He stayed as long as he wanted, and then retired. If I am correct, Barney Frank has his seat now.

Fitting, isn't it?

He has been a staunch supporter, but he knows that no matter what the truth may be, the old media will spin and spin and spin it out of his favor. Apparently, his office keeps pictures of all their interns, for future reference (for example, an intern wants a letter of recommenation, etc.)...that was the discussion on talk radio here in Tampa this morning. I expect he folded his tent simply because he doesn't want to go through media hysteria, which will be much curtailed due to his decision to resign.

Who knows the ages of McGreevy's anonymous mens room consorts. You think he had an age barrier? let's face it, a sizeable percentage of gays are attracted to very young men or boys.

Just got this from his website. Does this mean he may have to register in the near future?:

National spotlight on local sex offender program
By Kathryn Simmons
NBC-2 Reporter
Jun 2, 2006

PUNTA GORDA: A Florida congressman is upset that the United States tracks library books better than sex offenders – but soon that could change. A federal bill, which is the largest overhaul of sex offender legislation, is in the works.

But one local Southwest Florida city has already found an innovative way to track sex offenders – and now Punta Gorda is in the national spotlight."We've shared the Punta Gorda success story with every other law enforcement personnel in the nation," said Representative Mark Foley, R-Florida.

The Punta Gorda Police Department has a unique sex offender monitoring program. Every sex offender is assigned their very own officer, who can drop by at any given moment."Since the inception of the program, the number of sex offenders that are in our city has shrunk," said Punta Gorda Police Department Chief Chuck Rinehart.

The idea is about to go nationwide.Congress is working on a new bill that would revamp sex offender laws. The proposed law includes the following requirements: States would have to come up with a community notification program.Repeat offenders would be required to wear tracking devices.

A nationwide DNA database would be made for law enforcement and prosecutors across the country, so they can share information.

"The quicker you can get information from another state or community it could mean a big difference," said Rinehart.

If President George Bush signs the bill, it would also make it a federal felony if a sex offender fails to register."And hopefully it will go a long way to locking up the bad guys and protecting the little ones from predators," said Foley.

It has already gone a long way in Punta Gorda. If the bill passes, the rest of the nation will play catch up, so they can catch the predators. The House and Senate have already passed the sex offender bill once, but will need to meet again to merge the two versions. Congressman Foley says the president is anxiously waiting to sign it into law.

I didn't know that the Democrats thought that there was anything wrong with being a gay politician.

Foley represents the district just south of where I live. There was talk some years ago that he was interested in mounting a challenge for the Senate seat that Bob Graham was giving up. That is when I began hearing that his sexual preference could hurt him in the GOP Primary.

He also might have resigned so not to have all these gay political outfits to have some fuel to try to out all these closeted Republcians. If he had fought this that would have been a risk.

...I would strongly disagree...while I think most child molesters are gay....I don't think most gay men love boys...just cause you don't like their gayness, nor do I, I don't think it translate into them liking boys....they just like age groups around theirs....just like heterosexuals. I would not equate one immorality with another without evidence....that is just emotional reasoning
