Sen. Kerry Campaigns in district where Fla. congressman resigned

MIAMI Senator John Kerry is in Florida today, helping a Democratic hopeful in the district where the Republican Senator abruptly resigned. Representative Mark Foley was considered a shoo-in for re-election -- until it was revealed he had exchanged raunchy E-mails with a teenage page.

Senator Kerry is headlining a fundraiser for Tim Mahoney, who may now have a better shot at winning.

Kerry says the weekend is not about Foley's resignation. He says the people in Florida will make their own decision about that.

Instead, Kerry says, the visit is about mustering support for state Democrats. Nationwide, the party needs to win a net of 15 Republican seats to regain the power lost in 1994.

Say, I'll bet you didn't know that John Kerry served in Vietnam and got Three Purple Hearts.

Dear Lord In Heaven!

'Twas certainly Kerry's devout religious faith that carried him through those ordeals that saw his mortal flesh wounded, why - I now seem to recall a holiday message on that subject from one of his religious mentors, let's see, was it Father Itzak Cohen, or was it Rabbi Joseph Mahoney?

My memory fails me, if only I had a memory like John Kerry, I would even remember that I refused to sign my Form 180 because I didn't want my courage and heroism paraded in front of America as a political gimmick.

Perhaps ONE day America will just insist that Kerry be properly honored for his unwavering service to our Nation.
