The Dem'crats had done a serious job of opposition research on this one, and they knew the facts well in advance of this bombshell being dropped. An honorable rival for the office would have called up months ago, and let Foley know this would be used, would he be willing to step aside now? Even Foley's campaign managers should have been aware of the potential for trouble.

Foley knew. He thought he could tough it out, if any of this became public. If he were a Dem'crat, and not a Republican, this sort of thing might even have been a resume enhancement. He should have been discussing this six months ago, and "taken retirement" much earlier.

But shoulda, coulda, woulda, mean zilch when you get turned out by the opposition. Consider this a hard lesson well learned, and beware the residual power that even a political party in a serious state of decline, like the Dem'crats, can still muster. Like a dying rattlesnake, their venom is still deadly.

It does seem like it's a little convenient that all this info was there, at the ready. If you think back over the history of scandals in the 20th/21st century, many have been sprung by the democrats

The interesting thing in this case is that presumably if Foley was set up, digital fingerprints would remain. If he were worth the trouble (and he's not) it would be interesting to trace and reveal some of those fingerprints

Food for thought.

The democrats may have brought this forward. They may aven have convinced the page to wait until now to protest the emails, but the fact if Foley shot himself in the foot,

He allowed the little head to think for him and personally I am glad the sicko POS is out.

Now we need to rally behind a straight republican to replace the pervert.

Hey, just a minute. I'm as good a GOPer as the next fiscal conservative but this fiasco cannot be laid at the feet of the Dems. I don't know Foley personally and never heard any adverse information about him. But this sordid thing is over-the-top and as the Speaker siad last evening Foley did the right thing to resign. It isn't the Dem's fault the guy has a potically fatal weakness. And, if anyone should have beat the drum on this inside the party, it was the guys responsible for getting Foley reelected. It doesn't matter whether the Dems knew all the details or not, it was the GOP reelection guys who had the obligation.
