They sure ran a lot of negative articles on him.

Running negative articles and calling for his resignation are two entirely different things.

If we only lose five seats this elections

Newt was pummeled every day before the '98 election by about 30 Republican members of the House, Clintonistas and the MSM..............
It was terrible.
Think we might drop 10 races (plus or minus 2) this time.

Ive had it with this soft group of leaders. If he's weak enough to fall for this we are better off. He survives he deserves to.

Let me know when its time to go door to door.

Wow, this is going to reach a level of political war which we haven't seen, or at least I haven't seen. Of course Reagan is the first president I have a memory of, I'm sure there had to be more vicious times.

Well, being a native, I've been very disappointed in the Times ability to grow into a more nationally read paper.

This is a one week story just like Woodward's book so the Rats really need a better "October Surprise" than this if they plan to take over.

Jefferson is not the problem you believe him to be. The FBI raid inside the precincts of the US Congress are a greater problem to be dealt with first.

Jefferson will eventually go to a prison where he will be a king, then, he will get out, and he will have all the hot women who do the prison groupie thing after him.

It's much more important to remove the bad apples from the FBI.

What??? You mean all these young pages knew to save these IMs and keep them out of view from the public, except the liberals for several years? Right, something stinks and stinks bad. This will come back on the donks and it it the responsibility of everyone that despises the donk party to make sure it does.

" I am thinking either the demonrats were involved with their own email abuses, as the investigation could range into all senatorial emails... "

I think you should expand your horizons. Before this is over a lot more will be involved than e-mails. Clearly the trip to rehab and Foley's lawyer talking about a double life and addiction signals big stuff coming. If they seize his computer you can be certain that it will be loaded with kiddie porn and that may only be the beginning.

Ya know, many conservatives just have to shoot themselves in the foot and apparently Tony Blankley and Co. at the Washington Times fall into that category. Hastert has said he did know about emails but not instant messages. By all accounts the emails between Foley and the page were fairly innocuous, asking questions about vacations, how ya doin', etc. The IMs were sexual in nature and are from three years ago.

It is crazy to believe that Hastert, Boehner and the rest of the House GOP hierarchy knew about these IMs and chose to look the other way in order to preserve control of that body. While Democrats doing so is well within the realm of possibility since in the past such behavior has been spun and condoned by the them it has not been done so by Republicans, ever.

The Times evidently is willing to throw good people over the side in lieu of the facts in order to appear moral and righteous. That willingness is pointless. It is however self-congratulatory, self-absorbed and self-defeating in the long run and an example of why conservatives are referred to as reactionary.

Hastert said clearly he never saw or knew of these e-mails. He has not lied before and is assumed truthful until proven otherwise.

If everyone knew Grahm was homosexual, imagine the firestorm if they used that as a reason to get rid of him. It only shows that homosexuals are deviants and he resigned once his deviance was revealed. Good Riddance.

The GOP has handled this correctly and now needs to find out who all knew about this.

Pray for W and Our Troops

He should resign, if for no other reason that presiding over the total destruction of the GOP as the party of less government.

The time to deal with that is in November, December and January, not now.

Wonder if Foley's comuter was hacked.

This is what I've been saying! The IMs probably came from a page who became an activist, but I cannot imagine how the original emails ended up in anybody's hands if the parents didn't want it going anywhere.

Sometimes the pressure is too much for some, who can't even wait for additional information to come to light before drawing attention to themselves.

Agreed, which is why good ole Chris Shays (who is desperate to keep his house seat) was the first out of the gate to say "Any leader who had been aware of Foley’s behavior and failed to take action should step down. “If they knew or should have known the extent of this problem, they should not serve in leadership.”

"If someone sent the non sexual e mails that were printed to a sixteen year old son of mine I would strangle him with his own intestines."

I hear ya. I'd be screaming it from the highest mountain. That's what makes it so odd to me the parents of this teen-aged page knew about it and did not want the matter pursued.

exerpt ..........

Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-La., who sponsored the page from his district, told reporters that he learned of the e-mails from a reporter some months ago and passed on the information to Rep. Thomas Reynolds, R-N.Y., chairman of the House Republican campaign organization.

Alexander said he did not pursue the matter further because "his parents said they didn't want me to do anything."

I took a helluva lot of heat from people about my opinion on Hastert in my post. I see the same vitriol here from the same crowd. That's okay- I appreciate an impassioned argument, and if I learn something, that's even better.

But in looking at the FR archives about Hastert, I noticed this little gem. It's interesting how quickly one's fervor for the party can change at election time. What a difference 5 short months can make in one's willingness to overlook ethical failure for the sake of party unity.

So some of you folks who tore me a new one might be able to answer this: if Hastert was poison for the party in May, why has he suddenly become a sacred cow in October?

Party victory at the expense of party integrity is the hallmark of the Democrats. I'll be damned if it becomes the hallmark of the Republican party.
