"Discovering" the way something currently is has nothing to do with proof that it changed by itself.

subtraction of an exsisting protien yeilding "closed" not too impressive (hardly address gain of information on demostrates a loss of information), far more impressive would have been to show beetles eyes could gain this protein and become "open"

Unless you've had antievolutionists insisting for over a hundred years that it's impossible to move from one type of "design" to another that is systemically different. Then actual evidence that such changes can sometimes occur in a single step would be relevant, wouldn't it? [*scraping sound of goalposts being moved back*]
