WHILE the rest of the world looks to Beijing to stop North Korea from exploding a nuclear bomb, a leading Chinese analyst says it is too late - China cannot act without doing worse harm to its own interests.
"Basically, our country's work of persuasion with the (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) in the 12 years that the DPRK developed its nuclear program had been a failure," writes highly regarded Shen Dingli, of Shanghai's Fudan University. "The DPRK considers its national interests to be greater than its relations with China," Mr Shen says in his remarkably frank commentary, published in a newspaper of the official China Youth League and circulated yesterday by a North Korea-focused think tank, the Nautilus Institute.

Let be the first to throw the red BS flag on this one. If Taiwan were at the same level of nuclear development today that CHia-Head was, no one in the CCP would be claiming it was too late.
This is total beaurocratic hand-washing. Everyone wants to bail out and leave Condeleeza Rice as the only responsible party. N. Korea bullies people and treats them like crap because it works.

There will be a bad "accident" at the North Korea site if they try to set off a nuclear device!

No, they won't enjoy Honest Abe and his 2,000 ICBMs any more than they like Crazy Kim.

------ Sorry, Shen, we're not buying it. The only work of persuasion that you've been engaged in is trying to persuade others that China is not the driving force behind North Korea's nuclear program. Kim Jong's regime would collapse tomorrow without China's support.
To: .cnI redruM
No it's not.
We can nuke them into the stone age first.

I guess our efforts to stop Japan and Taiwan from exploding a nuke will be "too late" as wellNeither Japan or Taiwan have a place to do such testing.
We'll need to loan them a little spot in our Nevada test area,
then claim we're powerless to stop them.

The North Koreans will test a bomb despite pressure from the Chi-coms. Lets just hope it's a fizzle like their long range missile.
The after effects of this will be interesting as it will further demonstrate that the UN is a joke in stopping nuclear proliferation. I would expect Japan will then be moving toward a more aggressive military stance in Asia.

That would frighten the crap out of China. The Rape of Nanking was burned onto their national psyche; far more then Pearl Harbor of 9/11 got burned onto ours.

I would say this is a truthful statement. Truth telling would be necessary for Chinese officials since they have a billion people hanging on every word and they have a long memory.

There was a fireball type of meteor a couple nights ago went overhead shedding fragments all the way. Checking with my Replogle Globe I note that a missile launched from N Kor would follow exactly that track and if it were intercepted by an ABM it would look like that. If there were a launch and an intercept would everybody just publicly ignore it?

One the nose Mr. Chip, how in the world did North Korea and Pakistan, countries where running water is not a sure thing, come up with the know how to make a nuclear weapon?
Well, IMO China was the responsible party in both cases. Islamic weapon my candy backside, let's try Commie weapon to muck things up, again IMO.
To: rahbert
Israel/South Africa choice that location in an unsuccessful attempt to hid the test.
Japan/Taiwan would be better served by testing publicly.

It might be noted that N Kor was the location of Japan's nuclear bomb development program during WW II.

Neither Japan or Taiwan have a place to do such testing. Ever heard of the Pacific Ocean ? There are plenty of desolate areas where no one goes.
110 West 20 south is pretty desolate.
