Homeland Security: The FBI is concerned about potential links between al-Qaida and the mob. So why do Democrats and labor unions want felons working our docks?

Port security, according to the Democrats, is one of the gaping holes in the defense against terror, evidence of how the Bush administration’s war in Iraq is a “distraction” from the things we should be doing....

...So it was interesting to see that when Congress passed the Port Security Act on Saturday, it did not include a provision pushed by Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., that would have barred the hiring of felons for dock security jobs...

Well, there’s one slight difference: It was opposed by the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, a major supporter of Democrats...

Well if you can't hire felons on the docks how would the Democrats get those choice jobs?

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

Democrats are a SECURITY RISK.
Plain and simple.

This is not news. Michael Levine has talked about this for years. Where do you think the Mafia gets it's heroin from?

Afghanistan.

Not one to romanticize or glorify the Mob, these are not nice people after all, but I understood that the American and Sicilian Mob cooperated with the Allies during WWI.

The US Government concerned over a series of sabotage incidents on the New York waterfront enlisted the mobsters who controlled the docks, particularly Lucky Luciano, who agreed to provide surveillance and security effectively stopping further sabotage incidents.

Luciano perhaps didn’t do this entirely out of the goodness of his heart or out of altruistic patriotism. In exchange, he and the other mob bosses brokered deals with the government to turn a blind eye on some of their other “activities”.

And there has always been speculation that the US invasion of Sicily was greatly aided by the mob but then they (the mafia) probably saw a better likelihood of continued survival under the Allies than they saw with the Fascists.

But even still, I can’t imagine the mob of those days dealing with the likes of al-Qaida.

Easy. They have a price. They can be turned. They can be bought.

The mob will sell you drugs, take bets on sports, extort shopkeepers, smuggle guns, smuggle people, bribe politicians, and assault, rape, and murder to protect their lawbreaking hides. The mob is full to the brim with sociopaths, thieves, pimps, and murderers. But I can say with some certainty that the mob will not help you blow up New York, or any other American city. Possibly out of a sense of patriotism, but more likely out of a sense of self-preservation. The FBI already knows who they are and where they live, if the mob started helping Osama, all of the Fat Tonys and Mustache Petes would be in Club Gitmo before the week was out.

It was for that very reason that the Cali Cartel in Colombia (as ruthless a group of thugs and villains as you could find) refused to help Osama smuggle poisoned cocaine into the US a few years back. Fear of Panopticons spying on their every move and Operators storming their palatial mansions was more than even these ruthless men could stomach.

I came upon this story the other day and disagreed.

I would rather have the mob (Catholics) then others I could name. Had a friend who lived in Chicago. Kept the car (fee) in a fenced parking lot. Safest place that car could be!!! No break-ins!

Family oriented and patriotic. I might rather have the mob than the Chinese.

Mussolini and the Mafia were enemies, so Lucky saw a way to get out of prison by "helping" the US war effort. How much help he actually was is debatable.
