The Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations gave an interfaith award to a prominent Southern California Muslim leader Thursday despite strong objections from Jewish organizations who criticized him for comments made about Israel.

Dr. Maher Hathout received the John Allen Buggs Award for his contributions to relations between religions.

Hathout, 70, is a retired cardiologist who is chairman the Islamic Center of Southern California.

The commission called him "an inspired and tireless voice for greater interfaith understanding and alliances."

The decision drew bitter criticism from some Jewish leaders, who pointed to comments the Egyptian-born Hathout made at a rally in Washington, D.C., in 2000.

Speaking at a Jerusalem Day rally, Hathout said: "We did not come here to condemn the condemned atrocities committed by the apartheid brutal state of Israel because butchers do what butchers do and because what is expected from a racist apartheid is what is happening now."

Dr. Maher Hathout stuck his head out of the Trojan Horse of Islam long enough to receive his award. Our mortal enemy disguised as a fine upstanding member of the community.

Frankly, I can't get too excited about this one. An award like this, from a comission of professional liberals, isn't of interest or meaning to anyone but professional liberals. They lie down with dogs, they get fleas. Boo hoo.

If your county even HAS a Commissioner on Human Relations, it's probably a sign that human relations in your county ain't that good.

Sounds hateful enough for an award...

Nah, it just means that the liberals have a lot of clout in the city or county that has one. When they ask for another plaything, they get one. Sometimes it turns into an instrument of coercion, but again, I think that's more related to a town's PC quotient than to actual human-relations problems. However, these worthless panels may well worsen human relations themselves.

Yep!! More taxpayer dollars being used to fund the enemies of America. Got to give the props to the Los Angeles County Commissioners (all but one are Socialist Democrats).
