McCain riling some in GOP by enlisting '08 supporters

U.S. Sen. John McCain has been riling some South Carolina Republicans as his Straight Talk America enlists more of the GOP's top members for an expected 2008 presidential bid in this first-in-the-South primary state.

The Arizona Republican was in the Upstate Friday stumping with the Republican state agriculture commissioner, attending a veteran's memorial ceremony, meeting with key GOP legislators and handing out checks from his Straight Talk political action committee. Leaders from state college Republican groups even picked up $1,000 checks.

Trey Walker, one of McCain's advisers, says every Republican member of the Legislature has now received at least some money from the PAC.

Last week, U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., had enough of people jumping about Straight Talk America and sent a letter noting "efforts are already underway to secure commitments for the presidential primary, even though it is still well over a year away."

"handing out checks from his Straight Talk political action committee"

You can't ask for straighter talk than that!

I think he should resign.

Whether he knew about Foley or not.

Well, if one thinks of legislators who ought to resign, I could think of a few undesirables [more undesirable than McCain] all of us would be better off without. Logically, one should start with them.

McCain genuinely believes that he will be the oldest person elected President. He will be over 70. Reagan was 69 in 1980. McCain is no Reagan. He has a history of cancer. The base doesn't trust him. The media love him, but they don't vote in GOP primaries. He should just give it up now. He isn't going to be President, unless an anvil drops on his opponents in the primary, and the dem nominee is Hillary, and Hillary campaigns in a rustled Gap blue dress with Bill Clinton at her side grabbing her ass.

In other words, don't bother.

I seem to remember an ancient proverb about *something that talks and *something else that walks.

I guess it can happen at the same time.

No no....just McCain.....I want him to go far far away.

A nice vacation somewhere... until Christmas 2008, at least.

McCain has been very generous with his time and his PAC money. All of the people he has helped appreciate it.

There may be worse but with his "front-runner" status JM has the most potential do harm.

The great irony with Sen McCain is that he did not die of heart disease like his father and grandfather because the N. Viet. lowered his cholesterol through diet.

He certainly has locked up my vote - for anyone but him!

for an expected 2008 presidential bid

I would walk on class in bare feet for miles if I had to just to vote for his opponent in the primary.
There's no difference between McCain and a liberal democrat.

George W. Bush has been giving McCain a lot of help, including matching him up with big GOP donors.

I cannot see McCain getting the nomination. The worst thing is to be the early front-runner. I would vote for him for president only if Lady Macbeth ran against him.
ABH. But I doubt that one too.

McCain had melanoma, which is nasty and comes back sooner and sooner, worser and worse. There are many cancers, but that one is one of the worst. I am not a medical expert. Perhaps someone could add or amend my comments.

Hint- Foley was IMing (Instant Messaging) a page over the age of 18. A 'minor' detail the MSM is not bringing up. Those emails that were sent to a page a long time ago were to a 16 year old but were not sexually explicit

Furthermore, the page wanted to 'out' him. But that's all water under the bridge. What he did was unprofessional, but was in no way illegal.

As to the emails sent, read for yourself.

There is nothing bad in there! This is election politics and a smear effort by the Democrats, fueled by a media looking for a scandal that has a pro-Democrat and anti-Republican bias.

He has had multiple melanomas.

Reagan was an exception for me too. I honestly would rather not have a 75 year old President. It's a demanding job. Reagan was in good shape. McCain isn't. I don't want him undergoing cancer treatment while terrorists are plotting something. It's biased of me, but it's the fact. He also is an opportunist who isn't a straight talker and just sucks up to the media no matter what is the main reason, but I just don't think we should be electing people to run the country (other than Reagan) who should be enjoying retirement. Especially when it is a career politician. It's a mental defect to be in politics for this long non stop and wanting to keep going.

True, unlike some of our Party's media darlings.

But his ability to do that comes solely from the media, not from his positions or character.

I'd hate to see him run, but my problem with him is his character and if his character is like I believe then he will run.

(And if he didn't run then it would show that I was wrong about his character... catch 22, I guess)
