Russia Signs Deal To Produce Kamaz Trucks In Iran - Report

TEHRAN -(Dow Jones)- Iran and Russia have signed a EUR300 million contract for the production of Russian trucks in Iran, the semi-official ISNA news agency reported Saturday.

The managing director of Iran's Rakhsh-Khodro Diesel Co., Akbar Mirza- Husseini, said Iran has purchased the license to produce three models of Russian Kamaz trucks.

"This is the largest industrial contract signed between Iran and Russia," said Mirza-Husseini, adding the assembly plant will be commissioned officially later this month.

The production of the trucks, which will have a base price tag of $70,000, will stand at around 1,500 units initially but will gradually rise to 5,000 units in the later years, he said.

Iran has been increasing its trade and economic exchanges with its powerful northern neighbor, Russia, because of that country's support for Iran in its standoff with the West

There's no way that Iran would allow this unless Russia assured them that they'd do nothing to block Iran's drive to get nukes.

Yup,Russia's our friend,all right.

wonder if Bush is now having a change of heart about looking into putin's eyes and seeing his soul....his soul is that of the kgb...allowing Iran to have nukes is akin to the quote from Churchill regarding the alligator eating you last....putin should not think for a moment that iran will not try to come to old mother russia and convert the infidels there!....just have him take a gander at what went on in chechnya and also the breslin school....putin has the chance to make major gains in the western world community and is sacrificing russia's future for short term southern border security!

Russia and china are not friends of the United states.

Any fool that thinks differently has his head on backwards.

Not even. These are very large trucks, resembling Mercedes Benz Unimogs in some ways, MAN and Tatra trucks in others.

They do very well in the truck class in the Dakar Rally every year.

Here's an example of one in the desert.

Putin is betting we won't hit them with the russians there. I guess he forgot his spies fleeing iraq when our guys showed up. His best bet is to ship paper shredders to iran and fire those babies up.

They may look a little like trash trucks, but are definitely not.

The framework on the front is a roll cage, not the mechanism for hoisting dumpsters.

The area in the rear is for the many tires and spare parets that are needed to survive 17 days of off road racing.

Off road truck racing has been going on for over 20 years in Europe and Africa.

Say what you want about roll cages. Look at posts 8 & 11 , those are trash trucks. No offense intended but people will race anything nowadays, if you watch Speed Channel you'll even see people racin lawnmowers!!!
