I think you gave Barry Lynn something to do this week.
Thanks for the post.
Although I am a staunch Republican, I do not care for the naming of ships after living presidents or persons. whether it is an aircraft carrier named for George H.W. Bush or a submarine named for Jimmy Carter. I think the naming of the aircraft carrier would have been better to carry on the names of previous carriers like the Saratoga, Lexington, or Hornet; while the submarine could have been the Wahoo.
I couldn't agree more
Thanks for the ping. This is an excellent speach. It should have been broadcast on TV and should be printed in newspapers, but I don't know if got any coverage in the media.
Foley takes precedence to history, I guess......
I posted this on one other thread, for those who want to see the christening ceremony.
I don't know if C-SPAN plans to show the event later in the week, but, while looking for it on their TV page, I discovered they do have it on tape. For those who can't access it online, dvd and vhs copies can be ordered from their archives page.

Thanks for the ping!
I just re-read the speech. Poor Georgie doesn't know his history or his airplanes. He said this about his father after this plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire:
"He headed out to sea, he ejected."
He doesn't even know enough about aircraft to know that his father's Gruman Avenger did not have ejection seats, but that his father had to bailout over the side of the cockpit. Sheesh, and we expect him to be a leader with a lack of such basic knowledge. George W's F-102 had an ejection seat, not the Avenger. (This has been posted for those Dem's who would like to find something to rant about in his speech.)
I wonder what type of ship will carry BJ Clintoon's name?

Don't forget that there is a navy vessel named for the America-hating Jimmy Carter.
I love it!
I am inclined to agree with you. I have always been bothered by naming anything -- vessels, buildings, highways -- after living political figures.
However, I have to admit that I enjoyed watching what I saw of this ship's dedication. I think that HW is a great American (even though he is too darn polite for his own good.)
P.S. Thank you for your service.
"Wonder who would get the job of smashing the champagne bottle onto Hitlery ?"

I volunteer! Pick me! Pick me! Pick me!

I would not ever want to do that. Why waste champagne? However, if you just give me the empty bottle....
See my #70 AND especially my #71.
