The Conservatives have recovered their opinion poll lead over Labour following their annual party conference, according to a new survey.
The ICM poll for The Sunday Telegraph put the Tories on 38%, six points ahead of Labour on 32% with the Liberal Democrats on 20%.
The findings come after an ICM poll last weekend ahead of the Tory conference in Bournemouth put the two main parties almost neck-and-neck, with the Conservatives on 36% and Labour on 35%.
Asked who would make the better prime minister, 45% chose Tory leader David Cameron as against 34% for Chancellor Gordon Brown.
The poll also found 54% wanted British troops out of Iraq by the end of the year and 52% wanted them brought back from Afghanistan by the same date.

This is a positive development. All things considered, Tony Blair wasn't all that bad for a Labor politician.

Sorry cannot agree. Blair was a disaster on the home front. His legacy will be the break up of the UK! He introduced the Human Rights Acts and has bowed to Brussels evey time it mutters a new law.
He was much better on the international scene. Ironically many see it the other way around.
Our Dave has yet to show he has got what it takes. I'm still not convinced.

I have never lived in Britian, so I can't say for sure. But I can't imagine that having Gordon Brown would be such a great development.

Great Britain's economy is doing well, so I'm not sure what you mean by Blair being a disaster on the home front. What is there besides jobs?

Great Britain's economy is doing well, so I'm not sure what you mean by Blair being a disaster on the home front. What is there besides jobs? Doesn't the EU want to reorganize the administration of EU bureacracy in a way that would destroy the sovereignty of the member nations especially Britain? They want to divide up Britain and assign it to at least three different adimistrative regions one of which includes portions of some scandinavian countriess. Imagine if the federal bureaucracy in the US wanted to administrative districts irrespective of state boundaries without any consent whatsoever by Congress.

Well, let's see. Considering what the Tories are now, the polling breaks down as: 32% old-fashioned socialists (Labor), 20% moonbat neo-comms (Liberals), and 38% wishy-washy me-too-socialist-lites (Tories).
The only good news here is that the Tories are more likely to keep up the "special relationship" between the US and UK than the Blair-less Laborites.

The Brits need some more leaders like Winston Churchill, Henry V, Edward III, Edward I and Henry II.

I heard that. They are a pathetic no-principles party.

Its economic growth has slowed to a trickle now - around 1-2% which is very similar to "Old Europe" norms in "good times".

I concur. They win polls because the public sees themselves as "more authentically centre-left" in the current policy platform than Labour.

All hail hypno-squiggly-tree!
This is probably a push poll paid for by Cameron to save himself the utter embarassment of turning the fine history of his party into literature and a website designed better to sell organic shampoos and bodywashes.

My considered opinion is the Poms are stuffed! And this is different to the historical opinion that Aussies have of us in what way? You always go on about "whingeing Poms". In my considered opinion, it's a national tradition of Australia along with drinking till one throws up.

I concur. They win polls because the public sees themselves as "more authentically centre-left" in the current policy platform than Labour.Someone who is writing from a country that elects Helen Clark, the most far left leader in the Anglosphere, has no business sitting in judgement of Britain's "leftishness" based on one poll.
All parties receive a temporary poll boost after the party conference. This is just another one.

A "conservative" party that supports gay marriage? Yep...The "Log Cabin" Republicans do so as well. I don't see you saying our American friends are "stuffed" as a result.
