NEW ORLEANS (Reuters) - A U.S. congressman from Louisiana, under investigation by the FBI after they found $90,000 in cash in his freezer, was endorsed by New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin on Saturday and vowed that allegations of bribery would not hurt his re-election campaign.
"I have been effective, and I will continue to be," Democratic Rep. William Jefferson said as he opened his campaign for re-election in November 7 congressional election.

Joseph Francis Lavigne (R) could pick up that seat for the GOP but would have to get more than 50% of the vote in November. If not he will face Jefferson in a runoff and would lose even if Jefferson were convicted of killing JFK.

I have been effective
and I bet he still has a little room left in the freezer for some extra cash. :-(

Lucky for him, he wasn't caught doing anything really bad, like sending inappropriate e-mails to congressional pages. The Democrats would certainly be on his case for something like that.

Just when you think that Nagin could not get any wackier, he proves us wrong every time.

Can anyone say "Tom Delay". That ol' double standard is doing just fine these days!
To: YaYa123
NO.
And I think the f.b.i. should check in Nagins freezer.

"He was one of the few elected officials that supported me during the mayor's race, and I told him that if he needed my support, I would reciprocate," Nagin said. For me, this is proof positive that nothing has changed over there. Hell will freeze over before I ever spend another penny in N.O.

"I have been effective, and I will continue to be," Democratic Rep. William Jefferson said. Translated from the Cajun/Creole, Jefferson actually said:
" This is racism---pure and simple. I am totally innocent. Look, I had 90 large ones in my freezer because, as a compassionate and tolerant Democrat, I was helping out a distinguished foreign dignitary."
"What happened was I got an email from Nigerian General Kachinga Cheatchusuckah, who had a problem. When Gen Cheatchusuckah transfers Idi Amin's secret Ugandan gold reserves from a Swiss bank vault to a refrigerated truck I leased, it will all make sense."
