Saddam's men 'buried family alive'
Herald Sun ^ | 9 October 2006 | Kawther Abdul-Amir

SADDAM Hussein's forces buried a Kurdish family alive in a mass grave in northern Iraq in the 1980s, a witness told the genocide trial of the ousted Iraqi leader today.

The Kurdish woman, sitting to the left of the judges and speaking from behind a curtain to protect her identity, was the latest witness to give testimony about Saddam's 1988 Anfal (Spoils of War) campaign against the Kurds in northern Iraq.

"I know the fate of my family. They were buried alive," she told the court through a translator. "I would like to ask Saddam a question: 'What was the guilt of women and children?".

She did not say how many members of her family were buried alive. Prosecutors said identity cards belonging to members of her family had been found in mass graves in Kurdistan.

Thousands of Kurds, including many women and children, were taken from their villages, executed and then dumped in mass graves in northern and southern Iraq, prosecutors say.

Saddam's trial resumed today after a two-week break. Chaos reigned at the previous session, when Saddam was repeatedly ejected from the courtroom and his lawyers walked out over the sacking of the chief judge.

Saddam and his six co-accused were present today, but their defence team continued to boycott the trial in protest at the Government's dismissal of chief judge Abdullah al-Amiri for saying Saddam was "not a dictator".

If the mainstream liberal bias media would report on the trial of Saddam 1/32 as much as they did for O.J., or 1/64 as much as Blather gate fake documents, their ratings would obviously go up....

Why isn't this newsworthy, it is the trial of a fallen dictator of the land of former land of Babylon now Irag?

"I know the fate of my family. They were buried alive," she told the court through a translator. "I would like to ask Saddam a question: 'What was the guilt of women and children?".

perhaps this is just obvious non-news.

Saddam brutally mass murdered many innocent people.
The sun will rise tomorrow.

I believe there is a tradition of burying the convicted in dirt up to their chest and letting members of the victim's family throw stones at the convicted until they die.

Seems like a pretty good idea in this case.

My neighbor says we should just talk these kind of things over with people......that 'war is not necessary in this day and age'(Randi Rhodes told her so).

"It would be a lot easier on everyone if Saddam died from"Natural Causes" in his cell."

If Iraqi democracy is to take hold, it would be much better if Saddam Hussein was executed following due process of law.

Hi Fawn, It would have to be pre-April, 2003...as I have a post about how mad I was at PETA that they went off on some other tangent, definitely NOT as important as the Saddam/puppy deal. I think it was a few months prior to that, so I'm thinking late, 2002???

Sorry I can't be more help.

Actually, the one I saw on TV involved many Beagle puppies, and it was about Saddam having videotaped their deaths.

All in all, what horrible people--to DO this. It makes my blood boil with rage.
