'Doonesbury' Creator Condemns Muhammad Cartoons Posted by Greg Sheffield on October 9, 2006 - 15:10. Gary Trudeau, creator of the 'Doonesbury' comic strip, says cartoonists should draw the line when it comes to offending people. In an interview published in the Santa Barbara Independent:
Q. What did you make of the Danish cartoon mess? I understand that you said you would never play with the image of Allah. But did you feel you should have done so out of a sense of professional solidarity, or to make a statement about freedom of speech? A. What exactly would that statement be? That we can say whatever we want in the West? Everyone already knows that. So then the question becomes, should we say whatever we want? That, to me, is the crux. Do you hurt people just because you can? Because you feel they shouldnt be deeply hurt, does that mean they arent? Should the New York Times run vicious caricatures of blacks and Jews just to show the First Amendment in action? At some point, common sense and sensitivity have to be brought to bear.
I condemn Gary Trudeau's incessant America bashing.
But I won't shoot his relatives, burn down his house, or chant "Death to Trudeau!" with a few hundred thousand of my friends.
Gary Trudeau, creator of the 'Doonesbury' comic strip, says cartoonists should draw the line when it comes to offending people.
Meaning, if we ever decide to start rioting because of his rot, then he would get scared and finally go away?
Doonesbury--the worst cartoon comic anywhere. It has to be condemned as rabid RAT propaganda. I've tried to get the local rag to cancel it but they refuse, but they did cancel the conservative duck comic. Go figure!
"Cartoonists should draw the line when it cames to offending
people"? Trudeau's lame strip offends me every time I see it.
Oh, I guess Christians and Republicans aren't "people".
But there are plenty of Christians who aren't Creationists!
.....unless its Condi, then its OK right Trudueu? What an @ssclown hypo-crap!
What a little sissy!
On the other hand, I'm sure Jane Pauley's gardener always has a big smile on his face at the end of a long, hard ... day.
Trudeau has been a total, unfunny clown for decades.
Then how does Surrenderin' Frenchie explain that I am offended by Dungsbury every day?
Is this a joke?? I guess he doesn't care about free speech unless he and the far left are spouting off.
Cartoons shouldn't offend people?? LOL! I don't even read Doonesbury because I know it will offend me.
Dungsberry has taken time from his busy schedule bashing conservatives to pose for this picture
He's been offending me for years and that hasn't stopped him.
A few thought this was from the Onion, but it's Turdaeu that's the joke.
Bump!
Trudeau's poll of the day: Do you support Bush's torture plan? He is a sarcastic, pseudointellectual Starbucks and tofu liberal.
There is a difference between what it is morally good speech, and what is legal. Hopefully, what is legal should be very, very broad.
Oh my word. This is tooo tooo rich.
OK, this is way too obvious. Doonesbury has offended at least 50% of the people in this country every day it's been published, usually the same 50%. Often times it offends 90% of Americans and only appeals to the loony left America haters (Democrats all).
Therefore, by the logic of the ROP and those that appease them (like this moonbat) Gary Trudeau deserves to be beheaded and all property even remotely associated with him needs to be torched. Say, does that mean that we're justified in torching all NBC facilities in honor of his wife?
