BAGHDAD, Oct 9 (KUNA) -- Top leader of the terrorist organization in Iraq, Jamaat Al-Tawheed Wal Jihad, was arrested in Abu Ghraib, western Baghdad, by the Iraqi Army's third brigade of the sixth division, said Iraqi Armed Forces spokesman Brigadier Qassem Al-Moussawi on Monday.
Speaking to a press conference, Al-Moussawi referred to the terrorist as the "prince of princes" but did not disclose his identity.
Moreover, he said there was a drop in the number of terrorist attacks in Baghdad in light of Iraqi Army and police operations in the capital, adding that operations in Diyala were ongoing and that some 300 suspects had been arrested.
As for Kirkuk, he said that operations there led to the arrest of 148 suspects and the confiscation of weapons, noting the cooperation of tribal leaders and citizens in the area.
On the security situation in Diwaniya, which witnessed clashes between joint US and Iraqi forces with militias from the Mehdi Army yesterday, he said that the situation there was stable and "under control", adding that reports of large casualty numbers among civilians were not true.

His name is very very familiar. I know I have seen his name and a profile at one of the sites sometimes referenced at FR in the past.
He may be a kingpin in the Ansar-al-Sunni, Ansar al-Islam, or Jaish-Muhammud group. Or one of the equally radical Sunni groups.

The spokesman concluded the press conference with a commendation of efforts of Al-Anbar's tribal leaders, which resulted in the killing of 30 terrorists up to now. This allliance with the tribal leaders seems to be getting some good results. Still seems a little odd, though; strange bedfellows and all that.

Understand. This has to be a long ongoing operation to kill off all known groups that take on so many different banners.
Nothing is cut in dry in this quest to break down the Islamic terrorist. You are so right. So many of these cockroaches wait to crawl out of the cracks. The GWOT has to be an ongoing activity sponsored by all nations that now have a high stake in seeing it through.

Why are these terrorist leaders being arrested and not killed?
They should all be summarily executed.
