I don't get it. There are not even 52,000 American troops stationed in Korea. The first 90 days would be carpet bombing anyways. Then the ROK army would go in.

The Marines on Okinawa and RCTs of the 25ID have long been dedicated to a QRF to back-up 2ID.

I agree-this is outlandish unless they sank a lot of the Pacific Fleet.

There were 52,000 troups there once.

Around 1960 or so...Seems to be a dated analysis.

Must have been leaked to the MSM.

Within 5 hours the NOrth Koreans would send 1 million men across the demilitarized zone and overwhelm our forces as well as kill a million in Seoul.

There would be millions killed in Seoul.

They have tens of thousands of in-ground mortars (big ones) pointed directly at Seoul and I read in a report that they would be able to lob over 12,000 500 pound artillary shells into the city in less than 12 hours.

The only way to prevent such an event would be multiple tactical nukes North of the DMZ.

Don't kid yourself. NK has one of the strongest land armies in the world. We would probably need to resort to tactical nukes in order to defeat them. I don't know how many troops we have there but we would suffer very badly.

Don't forget that Seoul is within range of NK artillery and rockets. The NK won't have to move into position as they are already in position.

This is why such a high level of civilian casualties.

The figures probably were allied forces rather than merely American. There would be an immediate airlift of US forces too. So this may not be that unrealistic. North Koreans may be more disciplined than the Iraqis.

Actually, there are some 10,000 artillery pieces currently targeted on Seoul. How many people live in that city? I know that it's in the millions. Even if the US were to somehow get every last one of those guns, at least 1/2 would have the chance to fire at least 1 round... 5,000 artillery rounds falling on a heavily populated city isn't a good thing.

Agreed. In the later stages of the Korean War, Gen. Matthew Ridgeway's "meatgrinder" strategy cost the Koreans and the Chinese over 1 million casualties.

With the abilities we have now (mini-guns, JDAMS etc), that number is just a rounding error.
