International conference on Holocaust in Sarajevo

SARAJEVO (AFP/EJP)--- Sarajevo is to host this month an international conference on Holocaust studies in southeastern Europe, organizers said Thursday.

The aim of the conference is to "define areas in need for further investigation" as the "research and teaching on the Holocaust in the post-communist countries of southeastern Europe has fallen well behind this international development," the German Goethe Institute, co-organizing the event, said in a statement.

Several dozen participants from the region -- from Albania, Bosnia, Croatia, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia -- will participate in a three-day conference that is to begin on October 27, it added.

Participants from the United States, Great Britain, Germany and Israel are also to take part, it added.

The conference is also to explore possible links between responsible confrontation with the murder of Europe's Jews by the Nazis and the current issues of reconciliation in the countries of former Yugoslavia, that fell apart in the early 1990s in bloody conflicts.

During World War II hundreds of thousands of Jews, but also Serbs, Roma and anti-fascist Croatians were killed in concentration camps set up by Croatia's pro-Nazi Ustasha regime.

The most notorious was Jasenovac camp complex, known as Croatia's Auschwitz, with the number of its victims still disputed varying from tens of thousands to 700,000.

Today around 400 Jews live in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

No doubt the Nazis killed or caused the death of millions of Jews. They also killed many more millions of non-Jews. Do they count?

Admittedly, Hitlers greatest blunder was not a military blunder although he had plant of those. A Frederick the Great he was not.

His greatest mistake was to run the Jews out of Germany. Jews made up an important percent of the intellectuals, business owners, scientists, inventors, professionals and educators all out of proportion to their numbers. In World War I Jews were some of the most dedicated soldiers in the Kaiser's army.

The Officer who awarded Hitler, the lowly Lance Corporal, the Iron Cross First Class for bravery, an almost unheard of award in the class-conscience Germany Army, was a Jew.

Still, Jews were no more the victims of Nazism than anyone else killed by the New World Order. For example, there were more Poles killed by Hitler than Jews.

All of the victims of World War II deserve equal amounts of pity and sympathy, the Jews no more or less than anyone other ethnic or religious group.

The Nazis used any religion to further their power. For example, the Nazis raised three Muslim Waffen SS Divisions during the war. These were the only true "religious" SS Division the Nazis ever created (and it is safe to say that the Germany was not a Muslim nation). Himmler was fascinated by the thought of Muslims to be fearless soldiers willing to kill for their religion. One of these Muslim Waffen SS divisions (The Hanjer Division) was responsible for the murder of over 90 percent of the Yugoslavian Jewish population.

Then it's incumbent upon me to show that Tom Knowlton doesn't know WTF he's talking about, I guess.

The 13th SS didn't come into existence until 1943, and then was training in France until becoming operational and deploying back to Bosnia in February of 1944. source

Given that the Germans started rounding up and either murdering or deporting Yugoslavia's Jews (~80k) immediately upon occupying the country in 1941, and had liquidated or deported Serbia's 16k Jewish population by 1942 (20% of Yugoslavia's total), the notion that a unit which didn't commence operations until February of 1944 could have been responsible for the deaths of 90% of Yugoslavia's Jewry between the various antipartisan operations that it took part in during its year or so of operations in Yugoslavia is mathematically impossible, to say nothing of being patently absurd.

Do you still choose to stand behind Knowlton's claim?
