Fire ants are a good reason to live somewhere else.

In East Tennessee they have the Kudzu Ball, for the same reason.

Fire Ant festival!

YUM!!!!

I had a friend from Marshall. He used to float water heaters down the river and shoot them with a .460 Weatherby.

He's the second Texan I know who uses a .460 as other people use a .22.

Must be a heck of a place, so I am not at all surprised if they have Fire Ant Chili too!

I generally use a .22 for water heaters, but if I'm going after big game like refrigerators or deep freezes I use my shotgun.

Sprinkle a little cream of wheat around the mound and they feed it to the queen(s) and they explode (heard this on WBAP back in the 80's).

sounds familiar...

my brother used to shoot water bugs (really big cockroaches) with his .22 every time it rained.

"Fire ants are the muslims of the insect world."

Hey, that is not very nice to insult an ant like that...

[Fire ants are the muslims of the insect world.]

LOL! And the solution is the same, too.

I heard that the best stuff to use is DIATOMACEOUS EARTH from the pet shop. It's a white powder used in really good Aquarium Filters, especially for salt water setups. It's the skeletons of tiny microorganisms. On the ant's size level, it acts like ground glass...and if they walk over it, it tears them up real bad. Bad enough, they say.

The other thing I'd try is very effective on roaches, anyway. I once mixed some "Confectioners Sugar", powdered sugar, with Boric Acid from the pharmacy. Like Diatomaceaus Earth it is said to be harmless to pets and livestock. It ended the problem dramatically. Quite amazing.

The other thing I heard about for bugs...maybe ants too...is Baking Soda. They say they eat it, then blow up. Go figure.

I think that the Diatoms would perhaps work, and maybe the cockroach-bait sugar and spice.

Then, there's always the Chili Option.

The Chili Option works on me. One can imagine what it does to fire ants. Maybe that's where the fire comes from.

Years ago (when I lived in Texas) my father-in-law and his brother came down from Minnesnowta for a visit. I made up a batch of chili and it burnt them up good. I thought it was mild, cause I only used jalapenos. Then I go up to Minneapolis to a hockey game (old Minnesota North Stars), and order the nachos with cheese and peppers. Those folks up there thought a lot meant 2 little pieces.
