I have witnessed five major wars in my lifetime, and I know how swiftly storm clouds can gather on a peaceful horizon. The next time a Saddam Hussein takes over Kuwait, or North Korea brandishes a nuclear weapon, will we be ready to respond? In the end, it all comes down to leadership. And that is what this country is looking for now.(click to listen)

" Like all great presidents, he leaves a legacy that can be easily summarized:
He revitalized the economy, won the Cold War, and made Americans feel confident again.
Not bad. Not bad at all. "

His speech that night was one of those moments where I remember specifically where I was, and knowing I was witnessing greatness. Not many things political move me that way.

I saw Ronald Reagan give a speech at a Lincoln Park (Michigan) shopping center on a cold, rainy night, November 1, 1984.
I had never given politics a second thought until then. I had never voted for a Republican. My parents were Democrats (although politics weren't discussed). I voted for Ronald Reagan in 1984, and have never voted for any Democrat since.
