REID'S SMELLY WINDFALL; BACK-$CRATCHING WITH DEVELOPERS (rigged law to enrich himself)
NY POST ^ | October 16, 2006 | ED MORRISSEY

Posted on 10/16/2006 4:51:35 AM PDT by Liz

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid's ethics woes continue to mount. An AP expose shows that Reid pushed through changes in federal law that helped the senator get rich - via complex land deals with a lobbyist who's also tied up in a federal bribery case.

Reid has now told the Senate Ethics Committee that he'll amend his past disclosure statements to for the first time cover the business relationships that AP has exposed. But he calls the amendment "technical" - which suggests it won't explain why his riginal "disclosures" misled the public on the nature of a partnership that made him a $700,000 windfall. It isn't the first time Harry Reid's ties to real-estate developers have caused people to question the senator's ethics.

Back in August, the Los Angeles Times exposed Reid's questionable involvement and compensation in another Nevada real-estate deal. Harvey Whittemore, a lobbyist and real-estate investor, had plied Reid with campaign contributions and employed Reid's family members. The senator, in turn, helped Whittemore bulldoze through a host of environmental regulations in developing a huge parcel outside Las Vegas, to profit in the tens of millions. What Reid failed to disclose was his 2001 transfer of ownership of two parcels of land to Patrick Lane LLC - an entity in which he was partnered with one Jay Brown.

It's about time Reid pays the piper---he's been getting away with murder. But isn't that just like a Dim?

Liz, one small point you are missing, he is a Democrat, that makes it alright to do.

It won't matter. It's Nevada and he's a Democrat. Dems get rewards for unethical conduct. It's kind of like being a rapper and never being arrested for gunplay or murder. You got no street cred. Same for Dems.

I'm sure this is the only "questionable" land deal Reid has ever been involved in. /s

It's all just a "technicality" to them.

he's been getting away with murder.

You mean, like that senator in Godfather II who woke up with a dead hooker in his bed?

Consider Senator Majority Leader Howard Baker. He led the legislative effort that resulted in The Tennessee Valley Authority buying thousands of acres for the Little Tennessee River dam, the last TVA built.

The area not flooded included a very large lakeside tract that was eventually sold to developers (read Baker cronies) that put in condos and a resort.

It isnt only the Democrats doing these deals, although their arrogance and hypocrisy is more exceptional than Republicans. there are some facts we should know.

1. You dont spend a million dollars to get a job that pays $140,000 a year. I hear Hillary has 40 millions to spend this year.
2. Lobbyists arent up there for the fun of it. When they give gifts and money they expect a return.
3. Nothing is all black or all white, When a vote is made on strictly a party line vote, They are not doing their jobs for the people of this country, They are voting for power.
4.There isnt an ounce of integrity in the lot of them.

If he never disclosed the money he made from these shady deals, did he pay taxes on them?

After all, if tax laws were good enough for Al Capone, they should be good enough for "Dingy Harry."

Amen.
I've always said that about point no. 1.
WHY would anyone spend millions to get a $140K job?
Follow the money.
I'm convinced they are ALL CORRUPT!
The few who do go to DC with morals intact, come away with no morals.

Yes, Dems are more flagrant with their actions as they know they will never be punished!

..........I am reminded of a great line from "The Hunt for Red October" - Jack Ryan has just put a four-star Army general's shorts in a twist, and he is being spoken to by a politico.... "Jack, I'm a politician.... first, I kiss your baby and then I steal its candy...."
but I must be missing something here....Dingy Harry is a Democrat; I've read virtually nothing about this situation in the main stream media.... this SOB has probably been "stealing candy" for years.....ergo, what's the problem....??? it's "business as usual" for these slimeballs, isn't it...???
