Mark Furhman had problem with the comments? Well....isn't he getting all uppity all of a sudden!
The only solution was to set the example. His commentary was totally unacceptable.
What were his comments?
""Now, that's what I'm talking about," Thomas said . "You come into our house, you should get your behind kicked. You don't come into the OB playing that stuff. You're across the ocean over there. You're across the city. You can't come over to our place talking noise like that. You'll get your butt beat. I was about to go down the elevator to get in that thing." "I say, why don't they just meet outside in the tunnel after the ball game and get it on some more? You don't come into the OB, baby," Thomas said. "We've had a down couple years but you don't come in here talking smack. Not in our house."
I don't follow sports, but saw the fight over and over- they should be punished more -especially the guy smacking someone's head with his helmet.
That's a Racist name!
Furhman...German...The man's Obviously a racist.
I bet he says ****** alot.
/Chappelle show
And for whatever reason, those teams are primarily based in Florida. This incident is just another in a long series of disgraceful actions.
His comments were inappropriate.
Drudge had a link to the video of it on his website last night. The guy sounded like a thug gangster and nothing like a sports commentator. Therefore I assume the next stop for him is ESPN.
Not sure I want to see these guys suspended, i.e., idled. Do you know how many additional gas station stickups that'll result in? Let's try to keep them occupied practicing their thuggery on the field! ;-)
I wonder why Miami-FL reminds me of the movie "The Longest Yard"?
Doesn't this guy also have a history of beating women?
Preview of UFC 55.
Totally agree. Say what you will about sports commentators (and I have), that's a new level of unprofessional.
Also consider that Rush got fired for saying something far less inflammatory than attempting to egg on a bench clearing brawl.
Evan as a Cane fan, Thomas's remarks were just WAY over the top. I would call it amateur, but even that would be too kind.
I think Larry Coker had the most outlandish comment though. From the Miami Herald: http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/colleges/university_of_miami/15762949.htm
''I think this will affect the image of this program, but in a very positive way,'' Coker said. ``This won't be a negative for the University of Miami.''
The only positive I see from this for the program is that it speeds Coker's demise.
As for the fight itslef, which was a farce in which both teams totally lost control and acted like a bunch of 12 year old thugs, I can understand it somewhat in this regard. The initial fracas broke out when FIU players slammed Miami's holder to the ground and began kicking him in the head. I'm sorry, but a bunch of immature kids (we forget that that's exactly what 98% of college players are) who see something like that happening to one of their teammates, and they're going to come onto the field and defend their mates. That in no way excuses what occurred, and I wholeheartedly agree with the suspensions that were handed down. As I said though, I can understand it in that light.
What really irks me though, is the coverage. Every article and clip I've seen is about the Miami side. Bear in mind, that there were two teams involved. The "other" team had 8 players tossed initially vs. 5 for Miami, and a total of 18 suspensions vs. 13 for Miami. Every bit of coverage is making it out like the fight was Miami's fault alone and they had the most players tossed for it. Ridiculous, slanted coverage. Then again, as a Cane fan, it's what I expect.
Bump - Good! What a clown.
This is bound to happen when you give a moron too many drinks and a microphone.
