Lieberman Wants Democrats To Win
Hartford Courant ^ | October 17, 2006 | Associated Press

Posted on 10/17/2006 4:34:30 PM PDT by Man50D

Sen. Joe Lieberman, running as an independent after losing the Democratic primary, said Tuesday he hoped Democrats seize control of Congress -- with one caveat.

A Democratic-led Congress, he said, must change its ways.

It won't represent progress that's real," Lieberman told reporters while stopping at a transportation forum in New Haven. "It's not going to be much of a step forward if there's a new Democratic leadership that doesn't change the tone in Washington."

As recently as Friday, Lieberman, a lifelong Democrat who was his party's nominee for vice president in 2000, would not say whether he thinks the nation would be better off with the Democrats in control of Congress.

Democrats must gain 15 House seats and six Senate seats to win control of Congress. Lieberman has said he would remain a member of the Democratic caucus if he wins on Nov. 7.

Liz Dupont-Diehl, a spokeswoman for Lamont, said the three-term senator isn't taking responsibility for helping set the tone in Washington. Lieberman has called for an end to partisan politics, but Lamont has criticized him for siding too often with Republicans and President Bush.

"It's certainly hard to tell from Sen. Lieberman's comments that he's the incumbent," she said. "It seems that he's trying hard not to own up to the fact that he's been there for 18 years."

Lieberman has said he will not endorse Democratic candidates because he understands that his candidacy has put Democratic candidates in an awkward position, and has said he would stay out of their races.

Most leading state and national Democrats have endorsed Ned Lamont, a wealthy cable television company executive who donated another $2 million to his campaign Monday, bringing his total contributions to more than $10 million for the race.

Republican Alan Schlesinger is also in the Senate race against Lamont and Lieberman, but trails in the polls.

The candidates face each other Wednesday in the second of three scheduled debates before the election. CBS newsman Bob Schieffer will host the debate, scheduled for 3 p.m. in Hartford. The debate will be aired locally at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Let's see, he wants the Democrats to win but he won't say if he thinks the nation is better off with the Socialists, I mean Democrats in control. Joe is trying to play both ends against the middle.

Joe is a socialist who believes in National Defense. There used to be many like him, remember FDR, Truman.

Poor Joe!

You left your values behind in 2000 as VP candidate.

Now your party doesn't want those values anymore.

You are now trying to save a party that disowns you?

Joe, stand for what YOU believe in, not what the Democrat Party tells you to believe in.

You used to hold the moniker "Conscious of the Senate"

Sorry, Lieberman, but your party left you far behind. You belong in the cheap seats with the rest of the Democrats who can't understand the insane liberal takeover.

He wants the Democrats to no longer be under the control of whiners and haters. They'll never give up their socialism, but it would nice if they started acting like mature adults instead of spoiled brat teenagers from the '60s.

I can't remember because that's before my time but I am somewhat familiar with their political ideologies.

A Democratic-led Congress, he said, must change its ways.

Thats a nice thought, Joe ... hold that thought, 'cause it ain't gonna happen. Not with the party which propped you up then shot you down and pretty much shat all over you.

Yer an old-time Democrat, Joe, and while it may be noble to maintain some vestige of that pride, the party which you seek to change ain't gonna go along with you. Yer a lone wolf howling in the forest now.

After the debate the other night and two to go, don't be surprised if Republican candidate Alan Schlesinger makes a stronger than anticipated showing.

Joe needs to have a sit down with former Senator Zell Miller for a "come to Jesus moment".

Heh.
