"The shooting was reported shortly after 3:30 a.m. at an apartment complex just north of Shaw and Brawley avenues.

Police said the officers were responding to a "call for service" when they were met with gunfire when they arrived.

The officers retreated to safety on their own after they were shot."

There's not much more here. The officers responded to a call for service and they were both shot. One of them was treated and released from the hospital, and the other remains hospitalized, but with non-life threatening injuries. The officers did not return fire, and the suspect killed himself.

Glad that the offices are alive, and I hope that they both return to full health quickly. I am also glad that the suspect did not kill the wife/girlfriend/child/sibling as has too often happened. Prayers for both him and his family, as well as for the continued health and safety of the responding offices.

In a televised report of the incident on KMPH TV 26, the police said this was an ambush. The suspect, James Lunsford, age 25, made a distress call. He could be heard firing the weapon by the dispatcher. He told the police that he had a friend who was suicidal, when in fact, he was home alone. He was on the balcony and he invited them to come up, and he opened up. He hit one officer in the leg, and the other officer was shot five times.

Police said that more than 20 shots were fired by Lunsford.

I hope they do well.

I remember a time when the Fresno Police were as respected as the Oakland Police.

"Yes sir. No sir. Yes sir..."

Then Jerry Brown, who wants to be AG, was elected governor.
