This is a first since 1999...while there, however, you learn not to jump to conclusions. The first question that is asked, "Who's sister or girlfriend did he "Play around" with? Or, "did he drive reckless and nearly hit someone"? Then third, "Is this a change to the current political situation?

Three Albanian men beat an American soldier to...minor injuries? I guess things haven't changed since I was there. I'm 6'0'' 205 lbs and the Albanians are way smaller than I am. I got attacked by a 17 year-old at the airport outside Tirana, Albania when I was 20. The kid couldn't touch me. I just wrapped him in a bear hug and called for the police. As soon as he heard me call for the police, he couldn't scramble enough to get away. He knew the real beating was coming!

I didn't sleep with his sister or almost run him over. I just refused to give him the "American" price for carrying an older couple's luggage. I gave him the same tip that Albanians gave him for doing the same deed. Apparently he thought that was unfair.

The Serbian population of Kosovo is confined largely to small rural villages where as the larger urban areas are predominately Albanian. If the attack occured at a "petrol" station odds are the attackers weren't Serbs.

True....Our government made it abundantly clear that no hard was to come to any American soldiers while we were there. The Albanians loved Bill Clinton. On one occasion in 2004, it appeared that Hamas set up an Ambush on a bus with American CivPol officers, A jordanian no less. A suicide bombing was thwarted in either 2004, I believe that is the year. I don't remember the exact date, but for the most part, they liked the American presence. However, my contention was that if we didn't ensure them their independence this would change.

The Albanians still love Bill Clinton but they have gotten their use out of American soldiers. At this point they would just as soon see the Americans withdraw from Kosovo. Thanks for the close air support! Don't call us we'll call you!

lets see, while in Kosovo in 2003, I had been chased by 3 Albanians. 2004 I was chased by an Albanian driving a John Deerogova ( :)) tractor, 3 Albanians driving/riding a car outside of Presevo/PV who attempted to pull me into their vehicle while on my bike.

They are peaceful people, yes they are.

I take it you are of Albanian descent.

Did I forget to mention that a teenager Albanian shot and killed a 11B in northern Kosovo while on routine dismounted patrol with an AK.

That's one of the dirty little secrets about Kosovo. There have been US soldiers killed or wounded due to hostile action, yet it never made the news. Wes Clark and Clinton love to claim that they won the war with no casualties. I beg to differ on both counts.

I would bet anything that it was Albanians..........for any number of reasons.....

this is my assessment of peacekeeping operations from what I've learned.......

Five phases of a Peacekeeping operation

1. “Please help us, we need you”!
2. Thank you for coming, we love you!
3. We’re glad you are here, what can you give us?
4. When are you leaving?
5. Leave NOW!

Nope, I'm of Danish and English descent. I spent nearly 5 years dealing with Albanian issues. I speak fluent Gheg (Kosovo) and Tosk (Albania).

All this must be an illusion. Clinton said our troops would be home by December of some year but he was politicing at the time. Typical Slick Willie.

more than likely, this was an isolated event. It will take about three such events to make a trend.

An Attack On A Peacekeeper Is An Attack On Kosova’s Peace And Freedom

21 Oct 06 (Zeri) – The announcement of the KFOR spokesperson, Valter Hubert Schmidt that an American soldier was attacked from three people close to “BEN-AF” supermarket, in Ferizaj has extremely agitated the citizens of this municipality, its high officials and the political subjects, who condemned this incident and called on the investigating bodies to work hard in order to solve this case which is directed against the interests of Kosova.

The president of Ferizaj Municipality, Faik Grainca said that he expresses his concerns for the incident to the MNTF (E) Commander, General Owens, KFOR General Command and the people of Ferizaj, convinced that this incident will not shake the trust that people of Kosova have for the American peacekeepers.

“Our friendly ties with the United States and other Western countries that we have built over decades will continue to become even stronger in every aspect”, said Faik Grainca, who called on the people of Ferizaj to report to KPS and KFOR any information they have regarding this incident in order to bring the perpetrators to justice as soon as possible.

According to Grainca, the city of Ferizaj was evaluated by the international and Kosova institutions as the quietest and safest city in Kosova and the American soldiers have the biggest merit for this. “It seems like there is a force that is against this peace and other positive developments in Ferizaj, so they are trying to cause incidents to break this image. But I can say that they will not succeed, because the citizens trust the American peacekeepers, who helped them in difficult times”, stated Grainca.

Meanwhile, vice president of LDK Ferizaj, Sahit Krasniqi said that this political party condemns this attack, and this is an act that should not have happened in Ferizaj or Kosova. “The Americans are saviors of Kosovars who alongside the European Community established the reality of freedom here.

The attack on the American soldier was condemned also by representatives of PDK and AAK. Nehat Mustafa PDK Ferizaj vice president said that Ferizaj is the luckiest city in Kosova, since it is located close Bondsteel, the largest American military camp in Kosova, country that Kosova tied alliances for liberation.

“The American peacekeepers have contributed for a peaceful environment in Ferizaj and Kosova, and any attack against them is considered as an attack directed towards the freedom and our aspirations to build a society with true democratic values”, stated Nehat Mustafa.

He said that the citizens of Ferizaj and Kosova should be very observant now when our future is being determined with the support of the United States some people want destabilization. According to Mustafa all those people who in some ways contribute to such situations, those people work against the free Kosova future, and that only helps Belgrade.
