Don't Vote Campaign, Voter Information Site Launched by AARP
Senior Journal ^ | September 19, 2006 | Staff

Posted on 10/20/2006 9:54:29 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

As part of an ongoing voter education campaign, AARP today unveiled its "Don't Vote" initiative, which tells voters "Don't vote . . . until you know where the candidates stand on the issues." The campaign has its own Website where voters can select their respective state and receive information on state and national races, find their district, and register to vote.

Additionally, visitors to http://www.dontvote.com can view the AARP Voters' Guide, which presents national, state, and local candidates' unedited responses on key issues.

"Voters tell us a candidate's positions on issues are as important to them as their personal qualifications," said David Sloane, AARP senior managing director of government relations and advocacy.

"We developed the dontvote.com initiative to drive voters to one place. They can learn from the candidates where they stand on the issues, especially those of importance to our members and their families, like the long-term strength and solvency of Social Security and making health care affordable for all Americans."

AARP will also debut two television advertisements next week on broadcast and cable stations to inform voters of the dontvote.com resource. One advertisement tells viewers "Don't vote", then explains the importance of knowing candidates' positions. The second advertisement parodies candidates who give a "song and dance" while avoiding issues that matter to American voters.

"The purpose behind 'Don't Vote' is to get the attention of voters. We all worry when candidates aren't willing to clearly explain where they stand on the issues. Voters want to make an informed choice at the polls, and dontvote.com is a big step toward this goal," said Sloane.

To view the voters' guides, see the television advertisements, and learn more about "Don't Vote", visit http://www.dontvote.com.

I've heard that AARP is somewhat left-leaning politically. Anyone know more about this and how it might influence the don't vote website?

Just slightly. They gave recongition to Harry Belafonte then ate crow when he made another anti-American statement about President Bush.

We need to encourage all of the elderly to get out there and vote the first Wednesday in November. Their votes are important.

SIMPLE WAY TO KNOW WHERE CANDIDATES STAND ON THE ISSUES:

GOP Conservatives do their best to start and stop with the U.S. Constitution.

GOP Moderates do their best to APPEAR that they start and stop with the U.S. Constitution.

Modern Democrats do their best to negate, destroy, thwart and evade the spirit of the U.S. Constitution. They stand for those what they think you'll fall for and for those who destroy the WTC, burn the Flag and shred the Constitution.

Remember:

Dems worst nightmare?

An informed voter.

AARP is a leftie bunch making big bucks off the Q-Tips. Steer clear of them. Don't listen to them for anything.

What BS, I think they send brochures out with who they like and what propositions they like as well.

They dance around a lot, but they put millions into effecting election outcomes.

Voters who need AARP to help them, really should be told to vote on Wednesday, November 8, 2006.

I listen to my self and adhere to my values. I'm not swayed by the propaganda of those who see Americans as being stupid and easily manipulated.

AARP is one of the bad guys.

Their endless mail solicitations make great wood stove fire starters.

I've heard that AARP is somewhat left-leaning politically.

In a year in which the great hope of the Democratic Party is that
lots of conservatives WON'T VOTE...
I can only think that this is a brilliant advertizement in favor
of The Democratic Party.

Artfully disguised as "non-partisan" by the rest of the fine print
attached to the campaign.

AARP is very, very wealthy and very, very leftist. Their main business is protecting their own investments while positing a concern for the elderly.

This is voter suppression aimed at elderly conservatives. Disgraceful.

The AARP is an obedient handmaiden of the Dems.

As I understand, it's the leftist's medium to scare old folks into believing that GOPers will take their medicine and pensions away.

I heard on talk radio that they also make a bundle scamming trusting seniors on insurance promotions.
