Chris Matthews Sunday Show

Barak Obama Rock Star could be next president, says Chris.
Joe Klein says he's terriffic, the crowds love him. 'What about the coverage he's getting", is Chris' question. Klein says Obama is really smart, but Klein doesn't explain the hype he's getting. He's a Talented politician.

Nora ODonnell answers the question by quoting "there is no red, no blue, there is only United States", Obama said in his convention speech...a powerful speech, she said. Nora says he has a great melting pot story. she says his biggest problem is lack of experience. (Nora isn't dumb, she knows that's not why Obama is getting all this hyped up media attention).

Kitty Kay said America is desperate for unity. "he's ridiculously good looking," Kay says. Later she says, "Obama understands the world"
(Yep, "understands the world", she said it)

Clarence Page says says his wife loves Obama. He says unlike Hillary, Obama carries no baggage. Chris doesn't want to hear Obama is a real African, not an angry African-American. (But Chris, that's why he "understands the world"!!)

It's ALL Chris Matthews stinky spin. No way is the panel going to tell Chris, Obama is getting all this attention from the MSM because they love him, because they want to promote him into a realistic presidential candidate. A book hype over kill in the hope Obama will become significant player. Obama is being created by the MSM as we type!! WHY ELSE WOULD MATTHEWS spend the first 15 minutes of his show drooling over Obama?????

Matthews compares Obama with Tiger, and Oprah. Superstar, he calls him.

Joe Klein said before that famous speech, the democrats were so happy to have a black to speak who wasn't Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton.

12 of Chris favorite reporters vote on whether Obama should run in 08
7 say yes, 5 say no.

Chris asks: his panel: " one year from now will Obama be a presidential candidate? His panel ties.

Chris shows the Harold Ford ad in a church.
Demos have to retake values, Ford talks God, says "pray for me", he hands out cards that says "pray for me" at rallies. He wants to be first black senator from south since reconstruction.

How about Webb running against Allen in VA?" Joe Klein says Allen has stabilized since macaca mistake. "we already knew Allen wasn't brightest bulb", Klein says. AND about the Ford/Corker race in TN, Klein repeats that democrats always poll better because white southernern republicans won't tell pollsters they won't vote for a black. (Joe, it's more likely white southern republicans delight in lying to pollsters!!)

WARNING< WARNING Clarence Page equates republicans covering up for Bush like they covered up for Foley. (This has a Rahm Emanuel ring to it, I expect to hear it more than once today.)

Nora and Joe don't think demos can "run the table" to win control. Chris had to draw that prediction out of them.

tell Chris something he doesn't know
Katty Kay says .. ( I missed it, but who cares?)

Clarence Page says John Kerry is getting ready to announce for presidency.

O'Donnell tells Chris, Richard Haas says Bush's iraq plan has no chance of success. Big changes are coming, she says.

Klein says Pelosi actively supporting Murtha over Hoyer for majority. leader.

Chris' last little speech, I'm so smart segment "The 1200 Wall street bell tolls but what about the millions who don't hear it, the "economic strugglers?" Chris says, they hear the democrat promises, so will voters put democrats in office? Chris surely thinks so. Poor voters want an increase in minimum wage, they want healthcare, they want democrats to have supoena powers so Cheeeeny will be investigated for those secret meetings with big corporations. (Well, that's what Chris said, and who knows more about the poor than Chris?)

Matthews compares Obama with Tiger, and Oprah. Superstar, he calls him.

Tsk, tsk. Liberals will never learn.

People don't love Tiger because he's black. They love him because he has 54 (!) PGA wins, taking enormous risks when necessary. He's on track to being the greatest golfer of all time. He's earned every adulation through hard work, personal achievement and incredible talent. He is also a polished gentleman...who never plays the race card.

People don't love Oprah because she's black. They love her because she's one of the most successful business persons EVER...a polished gentlewoman who never "gets in the face" of her guests. She turned a successful TV program into a media empire. And she doesn't play the race card.

Now, what has Obama done? Well...he's black! He got elected to the Senate, running against the disgraceful secret divorce records of a weak Republican opponent. He took no controversial positions and has introduced no meaningful legislation. He's played it safe, aligning himself whenever possible with fence-straddlers like McCain on feel-good themes like campaign finance reform. He's a chimera created on the PC altar of the MSM, just the latest example of the MSM falling all over themselves because a black man is "articulate" or "good looking" (how racist is that?!).

The folks will see through it in a heartbeat.

The new talking point among the media, ALL the media. America is desperate for a uniter, not a divider like Bush.

Americans want us to all get along.

WHAT NONSENSE. There isn't a dem breathing that wants to get along with a republican, any republican. They want to destroy the republican party, the country too if need be. They simply wnat everything their way or NO way.

What irony if Obama is in a primary race against Hillary. That will be ugly.

You did a great job reporting about the Matthews Show.

I see he's back to working "the poor" into his pitch for the Dems. When he started out on tv he had these mawkish little tales of "the little guy" delivered with a solemnity that induced hysterical laughter, particularly in those for whom recognizing a fraud was a professional necessity.

The stories usually involved Matthews, the innocent novice, asking an authority on "the little guy" about some quaint custom practised by this lovable though impoverished segment of the population. Matthews' own background while respectable, was not such that he would need to ask others about the struggles of the underpriveleged.

One story, often repeated, was of him him questioning a member of the capitol hill police force about why poor people always flew the American flag, a not noticeable phenomenon but it suited Matthews' purpose of appearing to be sympathetic to a class he had dedicated all his energies to fleeing. Matthews always slipped a half-stifled sob into his rendition of the cop's response: They fly the flag, Chris, (swallow, gaze stage left, full-face for the finale) because that's all they have."

None of Matthews' "little guy" stories exceeded in bathos and sheer hypocrisy the maunderings of his former boss, Tip O'Neil, Boston Irish congressman and briefly, House Speaker.
That is, if Matthews can be believed. Tip was a realist and did not idealize those whose votes could be bought for a pint of cheap whiskey, or the promise of a "job" on the Big Dig.

O'Neil was driven around in a black limo with blackened windows, presumably to spare him seeing the decaying slums owned by the Harvard (as in University) Corporation in which his constituents (or as the Irish pols called them "the muckas,") lived, prayed, drank and died, if his driver made a wrong turn on the way to the Tipster's Cape Cod digs.

Matthews has a nervous fascination with "the little guy;" his own economic rise in a country that affords even the least talented unlimited opportunity, seems not to have lessened his uneasiness, nor tempered his ugly, and possibly self- revealing assumptions about caste and class.

In his defense of John Kerry, a truly bizarre nonenity who married two very rich, very vulnerable women to get his hands on the accoutrements of wealth, Matthews accused the Swift Boat vets, all hard-working and in many cases, highly successful, of being "jealous of Kerry, because they didn't do as well as Kerry in life."

One could weep.

Thanks again, YaYa.

I watch Chrissy for laughs sometimes. His show is the very definition of "echo box". It is unreal how they slobber all over someone like Obama without ever considering his experience or qualifications. He should run for President because he's a "rock star" and the chicks dig him. Wow.

I listened to CBS News Roundup on the radio this morning for half an hour before I had to turn it off. Absolute steady stream of doom-and-gloom, pro-DNC propaganda.

They interviewed Hans Blix, who advocated a "carrot and stick" approach to N. Korea. He said that before we "wave the stick" at them, we should "dangle the carrot" by sending, I kid you not, Jimmy Carter, over there to negotiate with them. What's Jimmuh gonna do, give them more $ Billions, uranium, and reactors? What idiots.

It doesn't matter how many times their policies fail, they want to repeat them, over and over.

Chris' last little speech

Boy oh boy did the dems score big with his 'free' campaign ad played on national TV. Didn't he recently say he could no longer support the party that has abandoned him or were those statements reserved for the limited MSNBC viewers?

Great post!

Talking about Obama is about as enticing to me as eating roaches....

But will someone PLEASE tell Pissy Matthews that the reason we have such a freakin' mess in Congress is because these damn politicians THINK they are superstars and lose all conscienceness that they are supposed to be PUBLIC SERVANTS!

Congress needs to let Babs and other empty Hollywood Heads talk about charity, AIDS, and other social "travesties." Let law enforcement do the "investigating"- let the media whine and cry and try to create division- and THIER ASSES back into the business of doing what is right for this country, stick within their limits of authority granted by our Constitution, and KEEP THE DAMN SECRET INTEL OUT OF THE FREAKING MEDIA!
