Jane Wyatt, the lovely, serene actress who for six years on "Father Knows Best" was one of TV's favorite moms, has died, said her publicist. She was 96.

Wyatt died Friday in her sleep of natural causes at her home in Bel-Air, according to publicist Meg McDonald. Her death also was confirmed by Bernard Johnson of the funeral home Gates, Kingsley & Gates Moeller Murphy Funeral Directors.

That is still a fun movie to watch. Sam Jaffe was already old in that pic, but Jane did a buff dive into the pool.

We had one channel and my neighbor had the TV. We'd go to his house and watch the test pattern. Now I've got 4 or 5 HBO channels and several Showtime channels and I don't know what else.

I don't think Sam Jaffe was ever young.

SCTV had a great parody of Leave It To Beaver. The opening credits for several episodes always announced "... and John Candy as the Beaver." They finally did it.

Ward ( Joe Flaherty ) had the DT shakes. One part had him say "I thought the Beaver died in Vietnam." Beaver ( Candy ) told Whitey ( Eugene Levy ) that he overheard Eddie Haskell admit to Wally that he was gay. Whitey gave him a gun. The Beaver shot Eddie, Wally said "you're in big trouble Beav."

Ah, but "Maverick" was different.

Creator Roy Huggins had written a number of scripts for B-movie westerns in the early to mid-Fifties, including a Randolph Scott vehicle with plot and dialogue worthy of a "Maverick" episode. Huggins created "Maverick" because he wanted a western with a coward as the star. The easygoing James Garner was perfect for the role, and Jack Kelly was a fine foil when they worked together in an episode. As Bret was fond of saying, "A man who fights and runs away lives to run away another day."

Huggins also created "The Rockford Files", which gave Garner another chance to extend his career and which was built on the same formula.

Sam Jaffe mader a career of playing older men. During the early Sixties, when he worked on "Ben Casey", Jaffe married a women 30 years his junior. I imagine he grew younger every day after that.

"Perry Mason too!"

Yep. Especially Lt. Tragg. Nobody got past Tragg.

Well, Perry, fancy seeing you here. I'll just relieve you of that evidence.

"Rockford Files" was another great series. Seeing James Garner now in TV commercials makes me realize how old I am because I remember him so vividly when he was young and ridiculously handsome ;-)

During the early Sixties, when he worked on "Ben Casey", Jaffe married a women 30 years his junior.

A very successful marriage. Vince Edwards, who had difficulties with marriage, said he considered that couple a role model for him.

Actually, the opening voiceover of the first season of SCTV ended with, "...and Dave Thomas as the Beaver."

You are correct, though, that John Candy played the Beaver in, "The Leave It To Beaver 25th Anniversary Party." Dave Thomas played Eddie Haskell and said to Wally, "I'm gay and I'm proud of it."

Wally replied, while Eddie was playing with Wally's hair, "Gee, Eddie, I don't think you should be hangin' around here no more."

June planned to run off to Tijuana with Fred Rutherford, and Ward enjoyed his breakfast cereal soaked in whiskey.

Jane Wyatt was married to Ronald Reagan, I believe. Funny that it's not mentioned. Their adopted son is Michael Reagan.

It's not mentioned because that's Jane Wymann.
