Tonight State Department official Alberto Fernandez apologized for his outrageous statements to Al Jazeera television—but the damage is done: Envoy Sorry for Iraq ‘Stupidity’ Comment :

Quote :

(AP)— A senior U.S. diplomat apologized Sunday night for saying U.S. policy in Iraq displayed “arrogance” and “stupidity.”

A day after his remarks in an interview were broadcast by the pan-Arab satellite channel Al-Jazeera, Alberto Fernandez issued a written apology through the State Department press office.

“Upon reading the transcript of my appearance on Al-Jazeera, I realized that I seriously misspoke by using the phrase ‘there has been arrogance and stupidity’ by the U.S. in Iraq,” said Fernandez, director of public diplomacy in State’s Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs.

“This represents neither my views nor those of the State Department,” Fernandez added. “I apologize.”

“Not his views? Then why did he say it? "

It came from a tiny transmitter implanted in his tooth filling while he slept. Before the Clinton years they had you breathe into a phone every morning to check on the performance of these devices, but in the '90s heavy breathing into phones was much more misunderstood than, for example, fluent Arabic. Thus the safety procedures became rather flabby.

I know this because my cleaning lady used to work for the CIA NYT.

Sheesh!

Has State become the latest "Muslim enclave"?

This bonehead and Condi both need to get out of Washington and spend a few days back in the real world.

**Not only should he resign, but so should Karen Hughes**

Like hell she should. Karen shouldn't go anywhere. And fortunately for me, I'm sure she's not.

I have no doubt that AMB Hughes is intelligent and loyal, but the former television reporter who functioned well as a WH press secretary is out of her league in a State Department position designed to change Islamic perceptions about America. Her total lack of education in Middle East matters is unbelievable.

"Karen shouldn't go anywhere." Right. On August 29, 2006, Bush said, "we are getting crushed on the P.R. front." With that record, she could manage the Cubs.

BTW, to remind you, the esteemed AMB::

Wrongly stated that Saddam Hussein gassed to death
"hundreds of thousands" of his people,

Said Bush was the first POTUS support for an independent Palestinian state,

and my personal favorite....

Our constitution cites "one nation under God."

And now her guy is undermining the national policy while supporting a position that emboldens the terrorists to kill more US Soldiers... repeat... kill US Soldiers.

As I said, fire her.

If you can't even get your facts straight, why should I bother speaking to you? Karen Hughes was never press secretary.

Oops. Dir of Comm while w/Gov in Texas. Later a White House consigliere.

However, being that the other facts are unrefuted, their truth remains.

Quod erat demonstrandum.

Just because I didn't argue with the rest of your comments doesn't make them correct. If you had said the Holocaust never happened and I didn't bother to argue with you, that would hardly make you correct, would it?
