Ah, I remember that day well...A buddy and I were in Iowa with a huge Bush-Cheney sign, a "Flush the Johns" sign and a plunger, taking honks, cheers and (from the Dems) outraged abuse. We got into his truck at about 4pm to go back to Illinois, and he turned on Hannity. It was the first time either of us had heard about the exit polls. He was worried, I said "Yeah, right," and we discussed where Kerry had been campaigning the last few days. Conclusion: The polls were wrong, or Kerry would have had a very different schedule. I didn't worry about it any more for the rest of the day, and sure enough...
A car pulled up near me with a young man, mid 20's or so, waving to catch my attention. He reached into the back seat, and while rolling down his window with his right hand, he brought up a sign with his left and showed it. It was a "Vets for Bush" sign.
I called over to him, "I'm a vet, too! Today is Veteran's Day! Did you vote yet?"
"First thing this morning, brother! Happy Veteran's Day!"
We kept chanting "Veteran's Day! Veteran's Day!" until the light changed and he drove off. Meanwhile, Scott was shaking the plunger at oncoming traffic next to his "Flush the Johns" sign.
Man, it's good to be a conservative.
