Contrary to Murtha’s stated defense that he only discussed how to bring needed investment into his southwestern Pennsylvania congressional district, the video proves that Murtha believed he had cut a deal to take a $50,000 cash bribe in exchange for helping a rich foreigner get into America, and proves further that the “investment defense” was nothing more than a cover to throw suspicious reporters off the trail.

You gotta give this woman one thing: She is fighting hard. I wish we had more Republicans who would stand up and fight instead of walking away with their tails between their legs.

There's always a number of voters who don't care about corruption in the congressman, as long as he brings back enough pork to their district.
Murtha is one of the biggest hogs in the House, and he also has a lot of seniority.
But Tom Daschle had the same thing going for him, yet he got beaten. I think Murtha can be beaten, and I'm very impressed with the job Irey is doing. She has the momentum, if she can just continue to get her message out.
The transcript is confusing and not clear to me Murtha thought he was accepting a bribe personally for this. He said "no problem" after the subject of $50K was discussed but its not clear what part of the previous statement he was responding to as no problem.

Now, if the thing is any different than what I state, I think, and you can hold me to it, you have the option of doing two things: one, either saying, "Hey, no good," okay, or, two, saying, "It's gonna cause all this kinda trouble, it's gotta cost more." Okay? Now that I think is a fair way of expressing this thing.
CRIDEN: That's [unintelligible] you're gonna have to see me about.
MURTHA: I honestly don't think you have any problem...I mean I'm going to lay it out to you.
AMOROSO: You're the man that's gonna have to introduce some kind of legislation to keep this guy in.
CRIDEN: You may not have to -- that you have to leave to us.
AMOROSO: Well, I have to know what he's gonna do, because I have to go back and tell these people.
MURTHA: I think, I think you're absolutely right... I think that in order to introduce legislation, you have to have a real tie to the district. One of the things is a lot of guys have gotten into a lot of trouble with is that type of thing. I haven't seen any problem with anybody coming into the country at all who's got money...the only guys having trouble coming into the country are the ones that don't have money.
And I'm going to be quite honest with you...I'm mean, you know, I've got as much influence in that goddamn Congress, with the leadership and the White House, as anyone in Congress.
