Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld must go. That's the startling declaration made by third district Congresswoman Anne Northup on Newsradio 84's Joe Elliot Show Tuesday night.
It's a radical departure for the GOP incumbent from Louisville, since she has been a staunch backer of the Bush Administraton and it's policies, including the decision to go to war. Northup said while Rumsfeld has done a great job revamping the Pentagon, his handling of the war in Iraq has been shaky at best in recent weeks.
She compared the embattled Defense Secretary to a coach with a losing strategy, saying it's time for a change. Northup says other things also need to change in the U.S. Iraq policy, but Rumsfeld's departure should be at the top of the list.
Prepare to be primaried, Congresschick.
How candidates act is way more predictive than polls. This goes right along with all the ads I have seen where Republicans are running like they are Joe Lieberman-- elect me, I can work with Democrats and Republicans to get things done! Santorum has one up now that is humorous (with a pro-wrestling theme), but that is the message. I've seen them all over.
Tight race, eh Annie? Think that's going to win you some RAT votes?
Yup. If there was ever an accurate definition of "craven", it would be her.
Is she in a tight race? If so, this ain't gonna help her. If not, then she'll probably win anyhow, but it's not going to draw Democrat votes.
I know nothing about this race.
It is a tight race. Yarmuth (D) is not a very attractive candidate, but all of Northup's races are tight.
Bad decision, then, I think. Could hurt turnout on the GOP side, and won't get her DEM votes. Bad timing right now.
It may not be Rummy, but I want to know whose idea it is to win a war by winning "hearts and minds" and not destroying these people until they are all dead, or they don't want to fight any more. This is what disturbs me.
If she's up for re-election, then I hope she loses.
Maybe he can come manage the Washington Redskins.
She obviously needs to watch more sports. You don't fire your coach in the middle of a game. When the season is over, then you do the assessment, the season being when Bush has to step down in 2008.
Congresswoman.
Well said. I've always said that the war is dragging on because the administration is bowing down to the PC nutcases who want our troops to fight with kid gloves and give the enemy Geneva Convention/U.S. Constitution rights.
The war should have been over in April 2004 after Fallujah, IMO.
WHAT? What could he have done differently in recent weeks? What an idiotic statement!
I live in a neighboring district and I now regret to predict that Anne will lose this one.
Why was I thinking senator.
I wish I knew.
She has always been a good team player for Bush. Her backing away from him now has me worried.
I guess because she sounds like the typical whiney RINO senator.
