I don't think the actual color of his skin matters. He had to come to the Earth in one color or another. But I agree the author of Revelation, within a 100 yrs or so of Jesus's death, probably had a better idea of the truth than you or I could have by just thinking about the matter. I'll side with the Book!

John was seeing a vision of Jesus in his resurrected glorified state. He was not speaking to Christ's existence as a man. He certainly didn't have eyes blazing like fire and the voice of a multitude of roaring waters. I can ironclad guarantee you he didn't; the Pharisees and Romans wouldn't have crucified Him.
Despite all of those paintings, Jesus' family didn't have halos on their head either. I can prove that too. There was no room for them in the inn. A family shows up with halos on their heads, you make room. "Sorry chap; these folks have halos, you have to go."
