Question?
In many cities here they have a computerized system that can pinpoint gunfire almost immediately. Sensors placed on say lightposts and when a gunshot occurs a computer determines where. Do you guys have any such equipment there?
I fuess what I'm asking is how do you determine where fire is coming from and do you respond quickly to it? Quickly enough to find the bad guys oftentimes?

I honestly don't know the technical aspects of the counter-missile batteries here. I'm just a civilian contractor.

I know that the enemy long ago figured out that they could get about three mortar rounds off in one setting before the military vectors in on them. So they are usually gone by then. Our guys do locate them on occasion and either waste them or round them up.

The way I respond to incoming fire is to either duck into the nearest bunker, dive unerneath whatever hard surface there may be nearby or hit the ground. ;-)

I was not close enough in the vicinity of the ones that came in yesterday or today to have to enact my own missile defense "duck and cover" plan. LOL

How are the Iraqui police and military forces coming along?
If any thing I ask puts you in a bad position then please don't answer, just curious.

The ground assault force also planned to act on credible intelligence indicating that criminals involved in the kidnapping of a U.S. soldier were located in a Sadr City mosque.

If he was kidnapped by these people, he's already dead, but I hope to God we get those who kidnapped him. Once we prove that he was kidnapped by them (especially if it was in that mosque) then that mosque should be destroyed.

I wish I could be happy about this but we will probably turn 'em loose as soon as Mooki throws a wing-ding fit.

Yes, the aim of our soldiers vs theirs is no contest. But, please keep yourself safe. It only takes one lucky hit. Prayers up.

Hey,Kiddo,,,This don't sound good,,,Moozzi is getting the "Range" on that chow hall with those mortars,,,
If there is a tall building near it they will use it for an aiming point. That gives them the direction,,,
The angle of the tube gives them the range,,,
Changing the angle of the tube will allow them to "Walk"
mortar rounds to the target,,,You will notice that the
rounds are getting closer,,,there's a "Bad-Guy" inside
the IZ that is giving the mortar crew the info about where the rounds hit(correcting fire)They will "Log" the info
So when the crew is taken out the next one will have it...
That "Air Activity" is the Gun-Ships going "Hunting",,,
The Fire-Finder Radar(Counter-Mortar)gives them the position of where the rounds are coming from.(my old job)
Gear-Up,Stay Safe,Short-Timer,,;0)
Prayers Up.
GOD Bless.

Thanks, COUNT. Looks like some good work was done by the good guys, but I don't like them lobbing things at our Allegra.

Do you run with those guys at all?

We went through the same thing when I was at Taji in '04. They kept going after the chow hall at lunchtime - trying to take out a lot of people. They eventually caught the scumbuckets who were passing information to the outside.

There are terrorists inside the IZ - everyone knows it. We watch for things like people pacing areas off and things like that. The good guys will get them eventually. Most terrorists aren't real bright.

We're OK! And the chow hall is still standing.

As a civilian contractor are you making enough to make it worth the adventure?

Absolutely. It's not all about the money. I wanted to be a small part of this. Plus, I have a 50-yardline seat for watching history in the making. I don't have to be here. I choose to be here.

May I ask what it is you do?

Issue and manage subcontracts for Iraqi contracting companies to build camps, police stations, etc.

Do you have family and what do they think of you being there?

A few of my family members lurk on here frequently. Maybe they could finally sign up and come on here and answer that. LOL (They are supportive for the most part.)

How did you get the job?

I was contacted in late 2003 and asked if I wanted to do this. My response to that is now evident. ;-)

How do the Iraquis treat you?

I've made a lot of wonderful Iraqi friends. I find them warm, generous, cheerful people with senses of humor that translate well with our own.

Are things getting better?

Absolutely. There are still a lot of problems, but I've seen progress advancing steadily in the nearly three years I have been here.

How are the Iraqui police and military forces coming along?

Very well. Especially the military. They want to take over the responsbility for their nation's security.
